I play my guitars (telecaster, stratocaster, epi sheraton and Hagstrom superswede) trhoug a new princeton reverb amp. This amp has beautiful cleans, and i got it for these reason-.But sometimes i need to heat the amp and push it to harder settings (i play in a cover band and i need some extra versatility).
I have the following gear: Boss OD1, Visual sound route 66, Proco Rat and a Seymour Duncan twin tube classic.
My complaint is that none of them reaches a more modern high gain setting. And my seymour duncan double pedal (two chanels OD + DS) has a very noisy switches tha make a big and audible "pop" everytime i push any of them.
I am looking for the almost perferct combination OD + DS:
Xotic bb pre + suhr riot??
Radial London Bones for DS?
Fulltone: OCD, fulldrive II??
T Rex mudhoney II?
Blackstar HT dual??

i wait for your suggestions
Is there any solution to avoid the switch plop????

I'd highly recommend the Joyo Ultimate Drive.
it's a Fulltone OCD clone at a third of the price.

I took notice of them when it was clear that a boutique pedal builder was using these, modded and repainted them... but selling 'em for around 200 bucks.
at 30 to 40 bucks you can't go wrong. love mine.

Get a new amp.

Boss BD-2 Blues Driver (the best, I think).

Or try Boss ML-2 Metal Core for more "modern" sounds.

Also Big Muff Pi (the "green Russian" version – discontinued, rare and expensive).

Tube sceamer is great

I have a closet full of them, Boss, MXR, Ibanez original green Tube Screamer.

My best advice is that less is more. I prefer getting as much as possible from a small wattage combo tube amp and turning it UP, AFTER boosting the signal in the preamp section with the appropriate gain enhancer. This produces the dripping distortion that melts in your ears.

As far as one box to do it all, Boss is about as good as they get and the OD-2 and beyond (not sure the numbers) have alot more flexibility than your OD-1, you can adjust them to get just gain Up or gain plus distortion combos that make the shredder down the block wake up and take notice.

But even the best boxes fair only partly because, like Tele says, the amp is key, even if it is not producing the actual distort part of the signal.

Fulltone is my call.
Whatever you choose make sure you end up with a lot of bottom end. Lot of the cheaper boxes sound full when you're jamming alone, but then in context with a group or in a song they are thin.

PR2000 , I'll bet your bass player just loves you...heheh Sound within a group of musicians in usually pretty crowded on the bottom end, as long as you get your place in the mix with somewhat of a good tone... you are ok.

Better take your whole band to the store to try out the box ...lol.

I saw reviews for the Joyo Ultimate Drive. For the price it might be worth the investment. While I see it on Amazon, how come it's not sold at Guitar Center, Sam Ash or Musician's Friend?

If you play with a bit of crunch in your sound, I would recommend a MXR Micro Amp, a little box that enhances your sound for leads. It has never let me down.
