Aerosmith...really?

And "Rough Justice" doesn't sound like "You Got Me Rockin'" and "Must Be Hell" doesn't sound like "Soul Survivor". At least Aerosmith put something out...

Rough Justice is much stronger than YGMR and Must Be Hell doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as SS.

I guess I was thinking of how the songs riffs revolved around each other....not that one sounds better than the other...What do you mean by stronger?

Might have been good 35 years ago, but now it seems like an unoriginal rehash.
I hear bits of Back In The Saddle and as someone else mentioned a bit of Zep's Wanton Song.

Lovejuice. Steady there fella. You seem to be new around here and your aggressive posts are a sure way to get banned. Tone it down and agree to disagree respectably.

i agree. whats this persons deal? i didn't call anyone names or be mean or rude yet this no name came into the thread and went off like sam kinison

You've just hit the nail on the head—that's the problem with this forum. Exactly. People either have a name, or they're a "no name." Looks like they removed some of my words from this thread. Ah, good to see censorship is still alive and well in the free world. Guess you're not allowed to suggest certain people should be beaten. Repeatedly. Who knew!?

Just a refresher, I suggested Keefriffsoft4life was an idiot and had no idea what he was talking about when he assured all of us Aerosmith had/has never brought in professional, outside writers. As someone whom has worked in the music industry for over 20 years, and in fact, worked closely with Bruce Fairbairn (producer of Permanent Vacation, Pump, and Get a Grip by Aerosmith) and engineer Mike Fraser, both at Little Mountain Sound and Armoury Studio, I can assure all of you, again, . . . Keefriffsoft4life is an idiot who has no idea what he's talking about. Also, whomever edits this site—randomly erasing people's words for content deemed offensive—is also an idiot. But, after all, who am I, just a "no name."

Banned? Ah ha ha! I'd wear that life a frickin' badge of honour my friend.

Geffen records brought in those guys so you are an idiot. end of story. on GET A GRIP aerosmith brought in blades/shaw and lenny kravitz and the rest were the GEFFEN team of writers that were brought in starting with "dude looks like a lady"

Should call the new LP, "Liver Spots".

The "they" in this case is BV. Which means other people reported your post as not following the forums guidlines of respectful use. Your free to do what you want and say what you want, but here there are guidlines for respectful posting. Your suggestion that you would wear being banned as a badge of honor is intersting. One wonders why do you bother posting here? Anyhow, it is your choice, but remember the old axiom, "if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all..." Peace be with you.

The lyrics have a minute resemblance to Walk This Way, at least in the first bit. How is that a throw-back to their first few LPs when it has the vocal work of their late 1980s/early 1990s work and sounds like it could've gone on Pump, Get A Grip or whatever their last one was?

Sounds like Aerosmith though.

How would you wear a badge of being banned as an honor when... it's a fansite on the internet? What, you gonna get a t-shirt printed up that says "I WAS BANNED FROM IORR.ORG!" ?

If you're banned you can't log on and say 'Hey y'all - I GOT BANNED! WOO HOO ROCK'N' ROLLLL!' because, see, you can't log on...

So no one would see you wearing your badge.

Back on subject somewhat - what was the dude's name that helped write those songs? Desmond Child? The Song Fixer. As I recall Aerosmith were not exactly happy with that happening...and then when they had whatever hit it was they were so cool with it that they had him do more for Pump (I haven't looked this up so I'm just guessing because I think that's what happened) and then they were so excited they wrote three songs that sound EXACTLY THE SAME on Get A Grip...

yes its desmond child and jim vallance who was bryan adams buddy. they helped write 5-6 songs on permanent vacation and 3 songs on pump. if you look the big hit sogs on pump were not written by outside writers. vallance and child helped write a few tunes on get a grip but anything else with a cowriter on that album were musicians and friends of the band like kravitz, shaw/blades, richie supa and mark hudson

usually when BV deletes something i said i'm glad about it,sometimes you say something in a joking manner and in print it just looks extremely rude and heavy handed.its like,uh-glad he caught that one.

but back to the topic at hand.you guys look like you're vehemently agreeing with each other about the outside writers.i like aerosmith, they're a better live band than any of the records[sound familiar?]but its pretty well known they used professional songwriters for awhile.

as for the new song,i'll give it time.i hated that song that steven did with santana and then i heard it a few more times and realised its a great tune.

Re: OT: New Aerosmith song

yeah so aerosmith brought in hired song doctors ... Fairburn, Child, Vallance etc.. after 'Done With Mirrors' they were pretty much fried and done for. still, for example, even with the song doctors for say 'Permanent Vacation' the album was still horrifically poppily produced. maybe the sleekness was typical of the times, I dunno. Desmond Child is a unimaginative, schmaltzy songriter in my books, anyway, but hey at that point it was do anything to remain in the marketplace.. hiring the song docs was a blatant effort to gun the engines for the Top 40. hell they've even hired people like Mark Hudson and Marti Fredricksen, otherwise known for writing songs for acts like Hanson, fer cryin put loud. those popsters produced and co-wrote and @#$%& out the guitars, in favour of production gloss and doo dads. longtime fans like me who still hark back to the band's mangy '70s style have to console ourselves with yet another spin of Make It. Jim Vallance was Bryan Adams song writing partner, and as a Canadian don't get me going on Adams.... a national embarrassment right up there with Celine Dion. just Adams name brings pain to my ears, the thought of listening to that goddamn "Everything I do, I do it for You" song ever again makes me want to cut them off

i'm not denying aerosmith had outside writers but lovejuice is trying to play it like it was originally the bands idea and it was not and lovejuice is acting like the entire album is written by outside writers and the geffen albums were not. one thing i'd like to point out the best geffen aerosmith tune that rocks the hardest "F.I.N.E." was cowritten by desmond child

its only a big deal having outside writers in rock and roll.country artists do it all the time and no one cares a bit.
and im not talking about some third rate acts either.george strait for example is one of the biggest and best to come along in the last 30 years and he has writers.
i thought permanent vacation, pump and get a grip kicked ass.saw the tours for all three and they tore the house down.even if you dont like the band you should still go see them just for joe perry, that boy can play.

The main think keefriffhard4life is with the newly reconstituted Aerosmith is that they sound different, and not really like Aerosmith, and a lot of that is due to them not writing like they used to. And bringing in outside talent will change the dynamics of any band. It seemed like a calculated ploy to broaden their commercial appeal at the cost of their gritty rock and roll sound. There have been many interviews with Brad Whitford where he laments the fact that they don't write like they used to. And he missed being part of the writing team where him and Joe would work together on riffs, and Tyler would contribute lyrics. And because of the outside writers their sound has significantly changed. And Tyler and Perry let that happen, regardless if they asked their friends to come in and write, or if the label demanded it, Perry and Tyler let that happen and continued the trend well after they re-found their commercial appeal, and because of that their sound has changed. No more Toys in the Attic, or Rocks, but more watered down commercial hard rock that seems to sell oodles. I miss the old Aerosmith. I can see from your posts you are a big fan and defend them to the wall. But my friend the fact you have to defend them is the point. What I would give if they would drop the overly polished choruses and revert to their roots of good raunchy hard rock. And release a Rocks like album. That is what Joe keeps claiming they are doing, and that shows you where his heart is, but it never pans out, so he also goes along with it, why? Because he gets a massive pay check. But listen to his solo stuff and you can hear where his heart is, still with gritty hard rock.

i'd rather have new "watered down" aerosmith as you put it then no aerosmith at all. done with mirrors was pretty much a flop and if geffen didn't bring in those outside guys for the next album i gurantee aerosmith would have been dropped and then broke up while the members died from drugs and faded into obscurity as a rock n roll footnote "that american band that was popular most of the 70'". i have a book on the history of aerosmith and straight from the book PERMANENT VACATION was do or die for the band. move records or go home.

what about the stones many non rock songs to get airplay? the disco influenced "miss you" and beast of burden". the dance influenced album UNDERCOVER. the wannabe hard rock of DIRTY WORK and STEEL WHEELS. the techno mixed jagger tunes on BRIDGES TO BABYLON. even in the 60's SATNIC MAJESTIES REQUEST shamelessly catering to the current musical climate.

Was never a huge fan of Aerosmith - even harking back to the bands heyday. I always thought there was something slightly "poser" about them.
With that said, my best friend Jimmy was a massive fan, and we had some friendly/heated/stoned arguments about it all on many occasions back in the day.
There's no denying their first three (or maybe four?) albums are classics, and listening to some of those golden oldies today brings back alot of memories...
Make It is indeed is a winner!

I also have fond memories of listening to this song below while in the midst of frying on mushrooms with my buddy Jimmy.
He got all emotional, and I laughed my ass off. Some things stick in your mind forever...

Joe did say the new disc wouldnt be another "Rocks"...to bad. Sounds like it might be another "Just Push Play" . I might like this more after a few listens. I think Jack Douglas was out sick the day they did this one.

I know what Treacle is trying to say. When you comparitively listen to "new" Aerosmith vs. "new" Stones...Aerosmith has them beat...of course the Stones are alot older and don't really play hard rock music...especially live.

Of course Old Aerosmith is beaten badly by Old Stones, and this new Aerosmith song is just an old Zeppelin riff.
