Taylor recently took a shot at Wyman in an interview with the NY Daily News. Something to the effect that he had let go of any complaints about songwiting credits, unlike Bill Wyman.

Perhaps Bill (or Jagger, or Richards or whoever) is right. That Taylor would in some way fold on even a short tour or residency - psychologically or in his playing or something... but damn, from the outside looking in, like I am, it just seems Taylor sits down with Jagger for one half hour and the Stones have their best single in 20 years or so. That's why it's so hard (for me at least), to accept Taylor won't be part of it.
I don't know who is a "genius" and who isn't, but if you thought Taylor's only contributions to the Stones greatest records was playing solos you don't know very much about the Rolling Stones.
Two of the most over used words in modern times, are, genius and great.
There's no mention in that quote to suggest that hes referring to one show regarding Taylor.
Fixed that for yah cos you had one word too many.

Yes, this is right. There was also the matter of Bill misspeaking or misunderstanding the arrangements of Taylor's financial settlement with the Stones when they parted ways, or perhaps the options Taylor did or did not have.
There were also the matters of Bill's recollection of Taylor's drug use (or not) in France, Bill's description/criticism of Taylor's stage presence in the Exile video, Bill's comments on Taylor's poor playing at a Rhythm Kings recording session - maybe all, some of none of these have something to do with these little comments back and forth (seemingly) lately. I don't know.
What a shame to accumulate this crap in memory, rather than have some good new Stones tunes to think about instead.

They're not going on a "big tour" with or without Taylor. And as for his recent playing, it sounds better than any guitar playing heard on the last Stones tour.

Bill also said in the Exile doc "some of the things he did were just amazing" (or words very close to that).
By those standards a certain Mr. Wood would have been excluded from virtually every tour since 1981.

I don't know why anyone ever expected a tour with Bill. The guy stopped wanting to do tours and being a Rolling Stone 20 years ago. At age 75, I would think he has even less interest. If Bill is involved at all, it will be one big blowout gig in England and for all we know, one big blowout gig is all the entire band has left in them. It might be all Keith is able to do and it might be all the others want to do.

Bill can be as blunt as Keith. Maybe that is the true feeling among the members that met in December, that Taylor is not the player he once was and would not be a great addition to their music. Bill has often said he would play with the group for one gig, some kind of finale or something.
Personally I hope it wouldn't be one of those 'All-Star' b-s moves where everyboy is up on stage all at once, with Wyman and Daryll playing at the same time and Mick Taylor maybe taking a short lead part. That crap is ultimately unsatisfying at places like the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions. Nobody is limiting the Rolling Stones to what they can do on what could be their final album. There is no reason Bill couldn't play on one two songs, or the whole damn thing. There's no reason Mick Taylor couldn't contribute to a new song. Who knows? There might be a Brian Jones gem back there somewhere that could be gussied up like they've done with the Exile and Some Girls cuts. It would generate some interest in a new album, unlike the little interest there is in them doing the mostly unispired work they've done on the last 3 albums.

Okay, so he contributed ideas for guitar riffs and songs, as well. Still, not a genius. I agree that the term "genius" in music is floated around way too handedly but to put Mick Taylor alongside someone who is generally regarded as a genius is ridiculous, in my opinion.Quote

I think Brian Jones facility with different instruments, and his lyrical playing on tunes like Ruby Tuesday are genius. I think some of Mick's lyrics are genius. I think some of Keith's rhythmic turns are genius. I think Nicky Hopkins piano on She's A Rainbow is genius. All I know about genius is that I know it when I hear, read, or see it.

Well I think I'd prefer to go with the current Stone's comment of them trying to get Taylor into playing form rather that some old Birds Custard eating ex-member's interview that has been translated from English into Spanish and then back into English. Also, the comment says "we thought about it but..." as if he is part of any decision-making. Not sure how reliable all this is.. As for those in this thread questioning Taylor's current playing abilities - he is clearly getting into form, look at what he played on Fallon, some very tasty little snippets. So his playing form is at least up to par with Ronnie and Keith I would say. As for his health, who knows? But he looks better than a few years ago in my opinion. I am not a doctor and do not know Taylor personally so I've no idea really, just going on what I can see..
At the end of the day though, maybe he can't really be bothered? I hope he can but who knows?
