By the way, if I recall right, Jeff Beck commented a year or so ago that he is interested to work with the Stones if they would do blues. Seemingly Beck is now realizing that dream with Jagger. What makes to me their blues-duetism enjoyable is its natural, free-going base - it seemingly is just the guys wanting to play that kind of music together. There is the spark. The joy of music with an incredible competence - it's "easy" for them having their condition and ability. There is no any 'formal' constraints - and probably physical restrictions - like it would be with the context of the Stones. The 'modern' Stones, with their typical one gear, play damn boring and non-inspired blues generally (just thinking peculiarly the Buddy Guy number in SHINE A LIGHT.)

I am looking for hearing more Jagger/Beck co-work in the field of the blues rock - and why not expanding the field a bit, as they both have tendencies in that, too.

Tongue in cheek? - nope, that was the bubble-gum and Mick playing it safe.
lyrics took about 3 min. to write down on a napkin during a break in the cafeteria.
Beck's wailing could have been showcased on Ba-ba-black-sheep too - but the words could have been mistaken as a political stab at the current leader only.

pretty lame indeed. eye rolling smiley

NOT! Talk about lack of tolerance and cruelty...this takes the cake! So, Mick decided to take a pot shot at Mitt....Hurray Mick!

50s, 60s, 70s......Honestly Mickschix compared to the Army boarding school I was at that would be considered completely tame.........heads down toilets, chains flushed, being forced to sit in a freezing bath with older boys sitting on duckboards to keep you in there, whipping with wet towels 'til you bled, cleaning the parade ground with a toothbrush and being kicked if you tried to stand up straight..........being whacked with cricket bats and hockey sticks for the slightest reason.....all in a day in the life of a lot of kids back then.........and that's not to mention what the teachers got up to.....nah that Mick Romney stuff although technically a bit bullying and mean spirited was in the scheme of things esp. then,(& before for him) child's play. I got caned by a teacher until my legs bled and had scars for four years after......so,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Getting into the Stones in '73 was the thing that gave me mental relief..........esp. Heartbreaker..........

I met a woman and she told me...."well baby...... well the blues ain't bad"...........

I was dissapointed in the choice of song ,but after reading comments on here,I guess it was all part of the SNL style of show.Just a bit of fun .Not to be taken too seriously, but I just felt that if it had been a real bluesy number like the White House gig with 'Commit a Crime',Mick and Jeff would be a combination to realy look forward to.Seeing and hearing them whenever they play in a band together would be a musical treat. They could have played something realy bluesy and popular, but Mick opted for a topical type song.I reckon we may see them again this year or 2013 as guests on each others gigs maybe. It's a great mix of great vocalist and great guitarist together. They would probably sound terrific on any number.A real good combination that works realy well. smoking smiley

what a terrible, childish song. that being said, it certainly looks like Mick is in touring shape. At least someone is.....

The music was fine, how it was performed was fine, Jeff Beck was more than fine, but the lyrics sucked. Only blemish of the night. The rest of the show was fantastic. Mick was fantastic. The Last Time sent chills up my spine especially with that gospel intro. Thought for just a moment we were going to see the Stones. Arcade Fire was great though.

I think the song was a bit of a joke. On purpose. And what better place than a comedy show to play a humorous song?

A valid observation.

I have no problem with MJ bashing Mitt Romney in a tongue in cheek way. If that's his politics, great. I'm even 'one' with him on that.

HOWEVER, the lyrics to the song stank a bit.

Could have been far more interesting.

This line is worth the whole song
"Mr. Romney he's a hard-working man, and he always says his prayers, yeah but there's one little thing about him, don't ever let him cut your hair."

Yes, I also enjoyed that line as well. I just would have preferred a straight up blues song. Even 'Back of my Hand' would've been great.

It was poke at the screwed up political system in America. So what. Beck was quite good though.

I have no problem with the poke, or that it was aimed primarily at Mitt.

I just didn't think the lyrics were all that good, a bit infantile to be honest. Whatever, didn't spoil the rest of the music for me, and it was great to see them live, and enjoying themselves. I would never ever want to see that on an album though.

It won't be on an album for the simple reason that it is topical. The next release which might have new material is slated for January 2013 so a song about the November 2012 elections doesn't have a hope of seeing release unless Mick does a quick download-only release as a single.

Well, if you want to get the 'facts straight' please note that the alleged victim is long dead and his sister has said the incident never happened. Now, maybe it did and maybe it didn't but the denial on the part of the victim's sister is one of the facts in this case as is the fact that no one has come forward who actually witnessed the alleged incident.

Another fact is this: Mick and Jeff could have have picked from hundreds of LEGITIMATE slow blues songs from their combined myriad of influences but instead opted to do something topical and politically "correct."

It was SNL! View the song as a sort of a skit, not to be taken seriously...

The music side of this effort was just fine, but the lyrics were really lame. Would have preferred to just see them play some blues number they mutually liked. Sure it was SNL which dictates some fun can be had, but I just didn't like it. Mick and JB though were great.

The rest of the music WAS serious. Arcade Fire and the Foos both did stand yup jobs. Only Jagger trashed his own legacy. His perogative I suppose.

Were Jeff on, jaggers lyrics would not be the main talking point.

It's typical of Jeff though, sometimes he's totally in the zone and amazing, toehrs he's just doing his tricks without the licks.

Funny though, a good point in one of those reviews of SNL show, a critic said that maybe a New New Yardbirds is to be formed... Finally Beck shows to Page how the band should evolve if a proper singer/frontman is to be found.. grinning smiley

Honestly, I think these two gentlemen - Jagger and Beck - have a nice chemistry going on.

That is a total cop out. Mick's written some great lyrics over the years but on SNL he sang lousy and embarrassing lyrics, unfortunately. Let's not blame the fact that we're talking about it on someone else. He could have worn a thong on stage while playing with a 3D image of SRV and Beethoven and we'd STILL be discussing how lame the lyrics were.
