how lame Jagger / beck SNL

what a terrible, childish song. that being said, it certainly looks like Mick is in touring shape. At least someone is.....

I agree. It was a rotten song. Personally I am not a fan of that type of guitar-wanking "blues", where the rest of the band is just a background for hotshot lead guitar playing. Lyrically, the "political" observations were not much deeper than what any sixth grader could have come up with. Come one, Mick, you used to be a great lyricist - you can do much better.

Rap stars, like Lil Wayne just beat their fans up. Rolling Stones fan have to suffer the eternal indignity that is Sir Mick's solo "career."

I wonder if Jeff thought, "I flew in for this?" It was a wasted opportunity to bring that "Wow, that kicked ass!" factor that they secured from that White House event.

What I don't understand is that Sir Michael who is famous for not having any opinions about anything suddenly bashes out this lame critism about American politics. He did it twice before though with "Highwire" and "Sweet neocon". Credo: He has no political opinions but he doesn't like the Tea Party. Or something?

I think the song was a bit of a joke. On purpose. And what better place than a comedy show to play a humorous song?

Based on what? He sang some songs and made his usual moves. Doesn't mean anything.

The part about the haircut was pretty amusing.

It was a silly throwaway that happened to have Jeff Beck on guitar. Who would sound amazing doing "Mary Had a Little Lamb". It was dumb and fun -- no need to get upset. Though if they had included Arcade Fire and done "Shapes of Things"....

Except it apparently never happened. The alleged victim is long dead and his sister said the story has no credence. Be that as it may, Sir Mick can't even vote in the US.

It WAS silly, tossed off nonsense. A joke, if you will, unless you consider the myriad of legitimate blues songs Mick Jagger could have performed with Jeff Beck. How many? Hell, hundreds at least.

Jagger's mocking Mitt Romney on SNL makes headlines in media, some radio/tv stations subjected the song to censorship and people talk about it - for example
on huffingtonpost site there are 2.158 comments till now - not so bad for throwaway
And Beck gets very good publicity, so I guess he does not regret that he had taken part in it.

I have no problem with MJ bashing Mitt Romney in a tongue in cheek way. If that's his politics, great. I'm even 'one' with him on that.

HOWEVER, the lyrics to the song stank a bit.

Could have been far more interesting.

This line is worth the whole song
"Mr. Romney he's a hard-working man, and he always says his prayers, yeah but there's one little thing about him, don't ever let him cut your hair."

Gee, I'm glad someone gets it!! Lamemodem, are we the only ones who understood that the blues number with Jeff Beck was tongue in cheek...not to say that Mick doesn't favor Obama and the Democratic Party, but THIS was not to be taken seriously...and for those who don't enjoy Mick's solo ventures, TURN THE CHANNEL! Good grief!

Can someone please tell us the Mitt Romney "hair cut story" for us non US residents. Shortly.

The song did have stupid lyrics but it wasn't meant to be taken seriously.

cripes, people, it was just a throwaway jokey ditty done on a comedy show. It will never be performed again, it showed two bluesmasters doing a contemporary lyriced blues instead of a trad blues showing them both doing something new and unheard, it generated political discussion, it caused outrage (some markets bleeped out the word "shit" ), etc. It has crappy words, a misleading title (Romney is an enemy to the woefully misnamed 'Tea Party'), was probably written in 2 minutes, and at root simply sums up the observation 'what a shitty time to be a president with the economic mess'. People looking for it to be more than just a fun cheeky throwaway are missing the point.

I'm really glad it has its own thread though; I couldn't find any threads on Mick's SNL appearance! /s

it sucked-anytime mick starts selling his politics it makes for bad music.

it makes him come off as just another celebretard pushing their left wing politics.

its strange to me that a person as smart as mick wouldnt see that it doesnt matter one bit who the president is-they're all crooks who are bought and paid for by multinational corporations.
when the u.s. is dead and buried in a few years history will show that the bushs, obamas, romneys etc were the ones who sold it off piece by piece to the highest bidder, they should all be in jail right now.
to see mick siding with one of these clowns is very sad,i thought he was smarter than that.

The story of Mitt and the hair goes like this: while in college, Mitt and a few other " pranksters" were annoyed with a blonde obviously gay classmate....they chased the poor kid, Mitt held him down and cut off a large portion of his hair...cute, hey?? NOT! Talk about lack of tolerance and cruelty...this takes the cake! So, Mick decided to take a pot shot at Mitt....Hurray Mick!

Wasn't that the meaning of the song, Lem? It doesn't matter who's the president they are all in deep shit anyway. By the way, for the rest of the world there exists no leftwing American political party. They are both rightwing, one more so than the other.

The lyrics are far from "stupid" - actually quite clever and don't particularly aggravate one political point of view or another. The lyrical content was somewhat humorous and perfectly in line with a comedy show. Jagger and Beck's performances were boisterous, the vocals had an extravagant and farcical style, the performace and the song were unexpected. A fitting moment on a memorable night.

It was a throwaway moment, but exactly the type of political humor you'd expect to find on SNL.

I assume it was the result of Mick wanting to perform something silly and the episode running short on time. By choosing to do a long segment with Foo Fighters, Mick didn't leave himself much time to jam with Beck before Kristen Wiig's send-off.

yeah,he did sort of gloss it over but where was the shot at obama if it was supposed to be an even kinda thing.

by the way, you're children arent gonna have to worry about left wing or right wing american politics.we are on our way out and theres nothing that can be done about it,sort of like the roman empire.theres no coming back from 15 trillion down and leaders still selling you out.
hope you enjoy our replacemants, the boys in beijing will be happy to listen to any complaints you have.

I agree. At first I was afraid Mick would venture into a partisan bashing like so many other musicians but it was just a light hearted jest towards Romney. Anyone that got insulted must take themselves or their politics too seriously.

"Hey, goodbye all you punks stay young and stay high. Hand me my checkbook and I'll crawl out to die.
But like a woman in childbirth grown ugly in a flash. I've seen magic and fame now I'm recycling trash."

You still have the dollar, LM. Which means you can live over your means for quite a while still. But you are right, the yellow peril is on the rise.

Whatever! No matter what you may think, there are still huge philosophical differences between the parties....and you may be right that the prez is merely a puppet for the large corporations and the military. Mick is on the side that he believes to be more balanced and fair. It is a free country the last time I looked and he surely is entitled to say what he thinks. The point is, it was not meant to be taken as seriously as you are taking it. It was a filler, a short bluesy tune meant as a lark. I do wish that they had done another song together because I happen to enjoy Beck and that particular style of blues.

Damn, there are some serious people! When two British blues giants decide to do a one timer, their own take of 'talking blues', with an original, funny, poltical tongue-in-a-cheek lyrics in the context of a live American comedy show, instead of, say, covering for 2000th time a Muddy, Wolf or Hooker standard everyone knows, people are disappointed. I am sure these people would have booed Muddy Waters out, if he wouldn't have done enough familiar Big bill Broonzy or Roert Johnson numbers, but instead in the spark of moment came up with something original for the occasion. Maybe even with something a bit controversial...

Thanks Mick and Jeff for giving us a little spark of good spirits, and sense of creativity. You are not dead yet, and not yet to be cemented to some @#$%& museum. Once again, you English guys gave a lesson of the blues to American audiences... thumbs up

Most of all, Mick and Jeff seemed enjoying working together. A joy to follow their co-work. They seem to inspire each other. And Mick's voice and Beck's guitar are helluva blues instruments. It needs guns like that to make something worthwhile and unique out of the formally easy blues scale format. Kids, don't even think to try that at home.
