The monologue didn't suck terribly and Mick tried to makes a few modern-flavor jokes that about 87% worked. For example, Mick says something like: "So, people are always asking me---when I'm on stage and I say 'How you doing?' and they yell and scream and I say 'I can't hear you'---'Can you really not hear us?' and I tell them 'Yeah, I can hear you. I just don't care how you're doing'."

thanks, Swiss, very much
When I get a chance, I hope to write up my own revvy-style blow-by-blow of this
entirely wonderful show, a clear pre-announcement of the Stones farewell festivals.
Anyway, I'm just starting to re-watch bits and pieces as I find them, and all
I want to say at the moment is "Wow! Them Foos really set the bar high for the
Stones with THAT version of 19th Nervous Breakdown! That was so freaking cool!"

2) As anticipated, Arcade Fire performed The Last Time, this thus constituting
a pre-announcement that the tour will be advertised as a "farewell" tour.

3) As anticipated, Mick performed at the end of the show outside on Rockefeller
Plaza. More Stones hits. Thus re-confirming the outdoor festivals/hits
pre-announcement.

Yeah or maybe Arcade Fire has played "The Last Time" before and already knew the ins and outs of the song. During a time crunch, why bother learning a new song when all the members know another Stones song they could perform? It's easier for one guy (Mick) to relearn a song rather than five people in a band.Quote

What are you talking about? At what point did Mick step outside the studio into the plaza to perform?
As anticipated, you're coming off this as right all along (even though you were completely off). As anticipated, you wasted a lot of your (and our time) posting this stuff. As anticipated you never really went away even though you promised you were staying away from the board. And as anticipated: I'm dissappointed.

Apparently this actually did happen after the show...at least it was being tweeted about well into the night.

Yeah but not one second of that appeared on the broadcast. I don't see how a mini/private concert for a few hundred people proves a tour announcement. Then again, in Revvy's twisted mind anything goes.

Yeah, OK.

Believe it, erik...Revvy has to say it was a pre-announcement (whatever the hell that means) so that when the time comes when they actually do announce whatever performances they'll be doing---Revvy will say he was right that the SNL thing was just a prelude to the big event. It could be six months, a year or two years, he'll still say the two events were related. This is the kind of immaturity we're dealing with.

Swiss, thank you very much for your report and sympathy to us who couldn't watch this
Satisfaction skit - think it was pretty funny - these sad moans "I try and I try" - Mick looked hilarious with this hair and glasses
He has a rare ability to laugh at himself
The Last Time with AF - it was really great and they clearly enjoyed playing with Mick

Thanks for posting this swiss...Sunday morning here in the Uk and the first thing I did when I woke up was wonder how SNL had gone so it was good to get a summary as soon as I turned on the laptop. Sounds like Jagger did ok...
Mick did great, in my opinion. The material was a little weak, but this will be an epic piece of history someday. I loved how unselfconscious Mick seemed throughout it all, able to be funny and laugh at himself, and if maybe not knock it totally out of the park do a great job with the musical numbers, and maybe give an indication of how he might look if he were to adapt his huge over-the-top stadium moves back to more human-scale dancing and movements. He still can move, that is for sure.Quote

Wow swiss, what a wonderful contribution you have made to this board with this thread. I am blown away by it. Thank you dearly! Some of my friends were in that happy bunch last night and I was proud as a new papa seeing them perform. What great entertainment (even though I don't own a TV and had to plant myself at a girlfriends house to catch the action). Thanks sister, you rock! peace

Ditto Arcade Fire The Last Time!
Hope you do in fact write up a blow-by-blow in your own thread, or the other one you started, maybe!Quote

I really like the intro, I think it's a nod to the "original" version by the Staple Singers

Mick needs to work on his American Accent. You'd think with all the different voices he has used over the years in his songs he'd be better at it.

Wow--Rank Stranger, had no idea that's what it was. Extremely interesting. Wonder who made the decision to curate it thus on SNL? would be extremely cool if it were Mick's decision/suggestion.
Here is the original---which I had never heard tilright now! I have chills up n down my spine. Thank you so much, Rank Stranger.
