Let's start a new rule for everyone. If you hear that someone may have died, don't post it until you've had a confirmed source. Perhaps it was the journalistic instinct in you, hbwriter, to break it to us. I know any and every news outlet wants to be the first to break a story. But reporting on the death of someone isn't something that you can just lightly toss around. You never see major news outlets, CNN, ABC, CBS etc... report on a death and then retract it later because it was a rumour. They ALWAYS get a hard source.

she was a huge musical force - that club era from the late 70s obviously influenced some girls -i remember david johansen back then doing a kick ass live version of hot stuff, and even blondie covered Donna Summer - I would say that anyone who dismisses her as merely a 'disco queen' or other pejoratives simply does not know much about music - or they are more interested in making personal attacks

I came of age in this period and DS was a big part of that time.
I remember reading an article in People from the time the Bad Girls album was huge, and they asked who she listened to and she said, 'The Stones, Bruce....'
She was never able to get out from under that Disco label and was permanently associated with that era.
But she was the real deal, singer and songwriter who had a say in her productions. And Naturalist, I did follow what she was up to over the years and wish she had gotten the respect she deserved. And yes, Im also a Stones fan. Go figure.

RIP

I never understood the mentality of Stones fans who dismissed disco music. Mick and Charlie, as well as Joe Strummer and Mick Jones .....were deeply influenced by it.

I saw her in 2009 live in concert. Her voice was very special.

RIP Donna Summer

2012 is proving to be a bad year for soul legends. Especially female ones. She made at least two bona fide all time classics in Love To Love You Baby and I Feel Love.

But this one here was my fave. RIP Donna.

Shablamidi, shablamida Shablamidi, shablamida Shablamidi, shablamida...indeed!

Some are reporting that Donna died of lung cancer perhaps caused by the 9-11 tragedy in NYC.

So sad. RIP Donna.

You can call this Disco, dance music, 'fag music' (and I use that term sarcastically) - whatever label you choose, but the groove in this song is sublime.

Rest in peace, Donna Summer.

To those who don't enjoy Love To Love You Baby, Hot Stuff and I Feel Love: you have NO taste! They're dance floor classics - all of 'em!

Never was a fan of disco but I liked some of her songs. MacArthur Park was her best song imo. Fantastic looking woman even later in life. RIP.

Oh boy TMZ is my new favourite site! thumbs up Amerika Amerika! thumbs up smiley

Your disdain for America is already well known, but reinforcing it on someone's death thread is beyond classless.

Disdain for America? Absolutely not but fascination for cultural garbage whatever might be its country of origin : YES! grinning smiley

And frankly who gives a sh!t about DS?
She was an okay singer and she was very lucky to work with Moroder. And then?

I'd trade her entire discography for one song penned by Jeffrey Lee Pierce (btw EGrove he's American).

You can like her or not but to say she was an "okay singer" is ignorant beyond compare. BTW America is known for more than just TMZ- like the blues and country music. Without either of these you would be hanging out in a different forum since The Rolling Stones wouldn't even exist.

Good one. I love it when Europeans express disdain for American culture and yet.....

Get over yourself you idiot. I deleted that post and you know it. Go find someone else to pick on, get a life. Or better yet just git!

btw: I do stand by my comments, have the sense and courage to change them when wrong. This IS OT for this board of course but I'm sure you believe everything you spit out is meaningful. The comment about Mick sleeping with Donna was supposed to lighten up the heavy news and his sexual conquests have recently been the topic of many discussion here. peace

"Get over yourself you idiot." - BV - is that a personal attack?

Donna's version of MacArthur Park remains the only recording of a Jimmy Webb song ever to reach #1 on the charts.

I am sickened by your whole approach. Hiding behing your editor, now you want to get bv involved? What kind of man are you? I stand by my words abovve, are you forgetting your attack on me first? Get a life, get a clue and quit this childish, idiotic crap you are dishing out.

still running this down

and

may be a rumor - but someone just sent me a note - ok - seems to be checking out

I'm sure everyone would be just fine having rumnors of their death reported with such accuracy and compassion. I mean, wtf? Your response to my first post was a personal attack and you don't see me running to bv to have him edit it do you? I did it myself minutes after the first person took offense. That's how a man handles such business, take note.

that'd save you a lot of stress, huh? smiling smiley Sorry, peaceman, I'm here as long as they'll have me, despite your sad (and surprisingly violent!) wishes - fire up that speed dial, come on, man, call some of your supposed rock star cronies to back you up! smiling smiley ! I mean, you're just so "down" with Levon Helm being dead- but hey, not Donna Summer - such a mensch

Have some class hb, let the thread get back to Donna Summer, you were so concerned about her this morning. Such a pity to have you around too. You can always go back to hanging around the drug addled leftovers from Gun n Roses, the only ones who would let you anywhere near them in my observation, but hey you fit right in. peace

Re: RIP...Donna Summer

hey, i am concerned - I was a huge fan of hers, unlike you, who is only "down" with Levon Helm and actually mocked her passing (still hard to believe you did that)

and you should observe closer - lots of artists let me near them - you should read more

This thread perfectly illustrates the way this forum has gone.

Too many people being too judgemental. Too many people willing to jump down other peoples throats. Too many people prone to making crass remarks. It's a toxic cocktail.
