Has The Moment Of Truth Arrived?
Date: May 13, 2012 22:57

It appears that we are a divided nation. Some think it's all over as far as any future tour is concerned. Others, (myself included) believe we are on the verge of something big. Seems to be a lot riding on next Saturday night for both camps. Personally, if the Stones are a "no show" next Saturday night I won't be pushing the panic button. However, if there is absolutely no mention of the others (especially Keith) in the form of a 50th anniversary announcement, jokes, or skits, then I would be lying if I said I wouldn't be at least mildly concerned.

My question is, how much importance are you as a fan placing on next Saturday night? Do you feel we have arrived at the moment of truth in regards to some form of 50th anniversary tour announcement? Or do you think that will come later, possibly in July? Or never?

Necessity is the mother of invention. That will dictate the events of the night.

We should just let Mick do what he wants to do. If he wants to have a duet with Adele on SNL with Muse and Britney Spears backing him up...great. A year from now we're going to look back to all this and laugh, considering how much Stones related events will have happened by then. Let's not put all our chips on this SNL thing. It would've been great if the Stones reunited, sure (We don't know for sure until it happens)...but if it doesn't happen: Oh well, we have another year for other appearances to happen. This SNL isn't the only window for opportunity for this band.

I have already given up, so anything beyond re-releases and books will be a bonus. And, to be honest, the "real" Rolling Stones were finished in the late 70s. The Still Life tour marked the end of that. What we have seen since then is really a revival band. Nostalgia. There is nothing wrong with that but they haven't added anything new to the music scene since the late 70s.

Mick Jagger was on SNL in December of 2001, promoting Goddess in the Doorway. The next year, the Stones toured. I don't know why anyone thinks that a mick solo appearance on SNL means it's over.

The rumour that some shows could be played next year, makes me think that even if the rolling stones don't play next saturday(SNL) it doesn't mean that the shit has hitten the fan yet.

My answer is, none.
No use in speculating about what might happen or might not happen or what might be the consequence or importance of it.
Mick will host the show and will perform, and I won't be able to see it

Keep On Rolling smoking smiley

I'm not sure this is a divisive enough issue to warrant splitting people up into camps. I'm sure almost everyone here would be thrilled if the Stones played on SNL. Since there hasn't been Stones announcement, however, it makes some sense to believe what has been announced instead.

If the Stones don't play next week at 30 Rock, I won't be here saying, "I told you so". That would be stupid. But, I also won't see it as a sign that the Stones aren't planning something else later this year or in 2013.

None at all. It's funny how some think Mick can't take a crap if the rest of the Stones aren't there to wipe his arse. If the Stones show and play too then great, if not just view it as a chance to see Mick Jagger having fun. I don't think it's really anything more than that. If it is then great but if not it doesn't mean anything other than it's not time yet.

I agree, provided the Stones 50th anniversary celebration gets a nod.

I can dig it.

The 50th anniversary year begins on July 12, 2012 and runs through July 11, 2013.
