thanks to "sweet charmed life" on rocksoff (same as our SCL?) for the text of steve
cropper's statement. steve was right there. heartbreaking.

"Today I lost my best friend, the World has lost the best guy and bass player to
ever live. Duck Dunn died in his sleep Sunday morning May 13 in Tokyo Japan after
finishing 2 shows at the Blue Note Night Club."

Died with his boots on. RIP Donald Duck Dunn

sorry to hear this; Dunn has so much feel. Duck Dunn was a HUGE influence to bass players. including Bill Wyman. (and McCartney). although Wyman's walking style comes ala Willie Dixon, has a style similiar to Duck Dunns' as well in that I feel he's also a master of what notes NOT to play. they both had a really understated swing to their parts and both could play around the beat in a way that I think is a lot harder than it sounds.

Awww man, this solidly blows. What a great musician.
Fortunately, he left a long trail to follow ... and
the view's great from here.

What a real shame. Musicians for leaving us left and right. Like the old song goes, I'll fly away...

RIP man, thanks for all those Funky Bass lines.

Saw Donald play with Neil Young back in 2000...it was a great band with Ben Keith, Spooner Oldham and Jim Keltner...a pleasure to watch.

RIP Mr. Dunn.

Just got back from the Elvis Costello/Imposters show in Liverpool (great show, by the way!), and all the pre-show songs played while the crowd was getting seated were by Booker T & The MG's in honor of Duck. The guys also played a bit of "Time Is Tight", which segued into Elvis' "Temptation".

At least he went out playing with Steve Cropper.

The best.

Dunn's close pal Bill Wyman, former bassist for the Rolling Stones, was also heartbroken by the news -
a post on the rocker's website reads, "Bill says he was saddened to hear of his friend's passing,
and Bill and Donald both were in touch daily. Bill has known Donald since the 1970s, and had been
emailing Donald the day before his death."

So sad to hear this. I'll re-watch the excellent Stax Records: Respect Yourself documentary in his honor.

A great bass player!

Really enjoyed his music through the years.

I think Duck Dunn was a big part of the reason Clapton's 1985 tour was so good.

R.I.P.

@#$%& phenomenal. This whole show is available as a DVD, and includes performances by Otis Redding and Sam & Dave with Booker T & The MG's backing them.

Great touch on the bass and seemed to be a really cool guy. Jamming with Al now.
