Torn And Frayed. That's a good song to listen to sitting down with your elbows on the bar staring straight down into your pint glass.

I sent Worried About You to a friend of mine who was suicidally depressed once, so that association has some emotion for me. Even though only the title of the song really addresses the issue, I still think it fits the situation and emotion.

"Love in Vain"

Yeah Max ...but that's a Johnson track and he borrowed
those lines from Blind Lemon Jefferson's --- Dry Southern Blues 1926

A train left the depot with a red and blue light behind
Well the blue light's the blues the red light's the worried mind

Well if we disqualify that one... then I will say... resay... agree with...

thumbs up

cuz songs like Dear Doctor, which may be supposed to make us sad... usually make me chuckle... that line "Im dooooowwwnnn in Virginia with your cousin Lou.... usually makes me grin( something about an Englishman imitating a white trash southern woman who done r u n n e d o f f ).... so... when I really got the cryin in my beer blues I reach for another band.

You know why this song is so freaking sad?

Because the narrator-character has kind of lost it completely. His woman has
walked on him without explanation. He's destroyed, to the point where all he
can do is imagine a scene down the road, where she realizes her mistake,
and comes back and begs his forgiveness. He imagines at that point he
will be so strong and so together he will tell her "Ain't no use in crying,
stay away from me."

Dude, quit your imaginings. She's gone. She ain't never coming back.

Yes, but what makes it even more sad is that part of him is trying to pretend that he has also left her.
He can't deal with the pain, the bullshit and the strain anymore. It's hard to tell in this song who left who first, because he sounds so defiant, and yet so bitter and defeated.
She left, and now he's like: 'You made your choice, I'm never looking back...you'll realize what you threw away one day but crying won't make a difference and it'll be too late....'
But he knows she still needs him: 'You see a ship coming saying...it ain't me, it ain't me.'
And he needs her. And still loves her.
But he's too hurt. And yet, you can feel that he would do anything to take her back - but she's not coming back.
There's so many things going on in this song. Its so real. Its not contrived or hokey.
Toward the end, at the end of the last verse, Jagger sings in a wails or cries in a falsetto what sounds like: 'I love you, I love, I love youuuuuu....'
Gets me every time.
The pain of two people loving each other and not being able to work it out.
So they both remain haunted.
It's just ...... so deep.

I swear I think Jagger's 'Don't Call Me Up' is Part II: the old ghost comes back to town. He's been 'trying to forget'....'out of sight, out of mind..'
But he's still not strong when she's around. So he tells her, 'Don't Call Me Up'
Because he knows he'll fall in love all over again.
The songs are 20 years apart, but its that love that never dies, the ghost that never leaves.

' No Use In Crying' for me

love that song

I like side 2 of TY a lot better than side one, actually.

start me up doesn't work for me, neighbours is a throwaway, hang fire is just ok. black limosine works, slave works, litte t & a, not so much

side 2 is more interesting; capped by No Use In Crying

It's a close call for me though, with Winter being a strong choice as well.
