WANTED: Stones September 1965 Irish Tour Memorabilia
Posted by: stones1962 ()
Date: May 12, 2012 13:34

Does anyone know where I can purchase any memorabilia from the Stones September 1965 Irish tour? I am looking for original handbill's, posters, ticket stubs, newspaper clippings, etc.

They performed at the Adelphi Theater in Dublin on September 3rd, and the following day at the ABC Theater on the 4th. Anything pertaining to this tour would be helpful.

You can e-mail me at: rob1stones@aol.com if you have anything.

Any help would be appreciated.

There is very little since it only lasted a week.

A week?

Two days. Bit of a stretch to call it a 'tour'

Rob - I dont know where you're based, but in case you live locally, the Belfast Telegraph's offices have a newspaper archive section where you could find reviews that may have been in any of the local papers at the time (Belfast Telegraph, News Letter, Irish News and Northern Whig (which I think was still going at that time)

The National Library of Ireland in Dublin may also be of some use.

Thanks, Thomas. Never seen that interview before. It comes from the January '65 Irish shows though when they played Belfast, Dublin and Cork (6th - 8th January)

That was their first shows in the Republic of Ireland, but they'd played Northern Ireland the previous 31st July - matinee show in Belfast's Ulster Hall being abandoned after about ten minutes due to a riot and then an evening performance at Ballymena which passed off relatively quietly!

isn't "I'm allright" from "out of our heads" live from ireland? i did listen to this song when i was 15 and suddenly changed from beatles to stones-fan, so many years ago now... but time is still on our side

No...its from the UK-only 'Got live if you want it' EP. The shows taped for that release come from March 1965 (London, Liverpool & Manchester). The US 'Out of Our Heads' album was released five weeks BEFORE those Irish shows.

There are no circulating recordings, official or otherwise, from the 1965 Irish concerts.

I even suspect that the version of "The Last Time" that the band is synched up to on stage in Ireland in the film is actually from those same set of three shows taped in March of '65 for the "Got Live" U.K. EP release (listen for Mick's "Oh no's" at the end - you can hear these same "Oh no's" before the band launches into the long version of "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love" on the circulating boots).
