Foo Fighters and Arcade Fire. Neither are R & R bands. Pop bands at best.
Foo Fighters are a pop band?!? are you kidding me?!? Why are there so many misinformed people on this message board? I suggest you watch them in action, especially the drummer Taylor Hawkins. He is one of the best around. He is HEAVY. A monster. Watch them and then come back and tell me that it's pop.

I've seen them in concert...they are so boring. Radiohead opened for and completely eviscerated them.
The Foos rock

The Foos rock... but it mean nothing here...
The Stones are playing SNL, not the Foo Fighters.

The Colour And The Shape is a great record. After that, I kinda stopped paying attention to the Foo Fighters. But, it should be interesting to see them play with Mick. It'll be a high energy performance.

..if true poor choice and timing....I would respect Superheavy backing Mick...but this is contrived.

I think Superheavy should have done the SNL thing in the fall...I even posted it at some point. This would have been excellent marketing for them at the time but I think it would be a mistake to come out at this point.

Besides all of us here...would anyone else really blink when they watch Arcade Fire, Foo Fighters and whomever else back Mick up tomorrow? No one outside this board really knows/cares that all the Stones are in NYC or that Mick Taylor is also in town. So it's a huge loss for us, sure...but to everyone else, no doubt they'll think this is an epic pairing.

Hey I have not been a big Foo Fighters fan at all. I find them too polished and generic sounding....but at least it is a rock band and not Pooperheavy. Hopefully this will bring out Mick's roll.

True, which is why mere rock is boring.

The news reel says nothing about Jagger actually playing with either of the bands. My guess is that he will simply host the show and participate in some skits. That is the usual routine. One hope however is that he will use his time to reveal some news about the Stones 50 year jubilee. Hopefully something more than the usual commercial crap flogging...

That pretty much sums up the comments on the original EW article: Lots of positive reactions, with one person actually questioning why Mick isn't playing with...SuperHeavy.

Why do SNL?

Still with the "why?"

Mick himself stated he was going to live in NY for a period of time. Perhaps Lorne Michaels simply reached out to him and brought up the idea of hosting since he was going to be in the neighborhood. To promote what? Nothing. It's a one time deal...a legend hosting SNL...you don't really need a why. When it's all said and done...it's Mick Jagger performing with two of the most 'in" bands in music today to create some quality must-see-TV..or rather must-see-Hulu viewing. He has no product to push...there is no "then what" after this. It's your basic "well that was random!" TV spot. An extended cameo appearance, if you will.

jesus christ, can you guys not think outside the box? so it's not The Stones. Mick with Arcade Fire and Foo Fighters might be pretty awesome. In fact, I bet it will be. Because I'm not looking at the performance angrily! Give it a chance before you crap all over it! Are you not fans of Mick Jagger? If he's not playing with The Stones would you rather he retire and not make new music?

I agree. Maybe Mick really likes these bands. I think its cool.

Well according to their official site, they're playing in Asbury Park, New Jersey...which is just 90 minutes away from New York. So maybe just 30 minutes if they took a private jet. No reason to not assume they'd do both SNL and the gig in Jersey.

It's an all day festival so it could easily end by 10:00, or the Foo's may decide to go on next to last even though they are headlining.

Anyway, instead of taking your anger out on the Foo's or Arcade Fire (not you Justin), you should be blasting Mick, after all it was Mick's choice! Even if he picked Radiohead or Coldplay, which by far are the 2 worst bands on this planet, it's still Mick's choice.

I can't imagine lorne michaels would approve of a band rushing to get to the studio on time for a live broadcast, but what do I know?

As I mentioned, they may play earlier and as long as they attend rehearsals they should be fine. I'm sure more than 2 songs will be practiced so if a band doesn't show, the other can step in.

Yeah, the worst case scenario would just mean Arcade Fire playing twice. It's certainly more logical than the Stones wanting to generate excitement for their 50th, then keeping an SNL appearance under wraps until the post-12:30 am segment. (When most viewers will have already tuned out.)

Incidentally, both Foo Fighters and Arcade Fire have already confirmed the SNL appearance via Twitter.

Really looking forward to hosting @nbcsnl next Saturday. @FooFighters & @ArcadeFire among the guests, should be a great show #SNL

guests does not mean they play with him

I gained a lot of respect for the Foo Fighters when they opened for the Police a couple years back. They were great ...

Foo Fighters, and particularly Dave Grohl, are always great! Great band, and Dave is a great artist, and appropriately called "the nicest guy in rock".

The Foo Fighters wouldn't know rock and roll if it jumped up and sucked their dicks. Can't do with them...all mouth and no real action. Grohl has been eating out too long on Curbain's dinner ticket. Max - I love your optimism and hope oyu are right about the Stones turning up, I'm not as convinced.

Foo Fighters/Grohl have been more true to rock in the past 15 years then the Stones have in their past 30.

Really? If The Stones played SNL next week I bet they would break a ratings record.
