Just been listening to the Chris Spedding demo recordings.

Nah, not as good... the sound is just not immense enough.

The whole question of who played what on the Sex Pistols records is a heated debate.

Steve Jones would probably deck anyone who says it wasn't him. But Chris Spedding was hanging around.

Steve plays them live like on the record so I think it was probably him.

Steve "no bullshit guitar" Jones.

It was an awesome sound he got.

There's a documentary on the making of Bollocks which turns up on Sky arts from time to time and the producer is very clear that Jones plays all the guitars. He even plays some of the original tapes to show how the guitar sound was created by combining several Jones tracks.

This thread reminded me to listen to the Bollocks again for the first time in years. Still as great as ever, I think it's timeless. "New York" is my favourite track; I've always thought it was a homage to the Dolls. Guitar is pure Johnny Thunders.

It's about the Dolls, sure. McLaren was their manager, at the end.
But i'm not very sure it's an homage.

I just watched a Sky Arts program. A recent 50 minute interview with John Lydon.

The program was called "In Confidence".

Very interesting and John engages in serious thoughtful discussion about all kinds of things.

No mugging for the camera (well a tiny bit), it was an excellent interview and you can see he's really a deep thinker.

The butter advert was done to resurrect PIL because there are (were?) still enormous debts to pay off for that enterprise last time around before they could get off the ground again.

Watch it if you get the chance.
