How is this terrible?? Great guitar playing, a swinging piano and a band that cooks! What more can one ask for? thumbs up

Maybe you never heard the Stones original version.

You're kidding, right?

Both are great. The first one with its naive, innocent drive and the 81-version for its raggedness, extremely well-played guitars and pianos and swing. Only weak link on the latter is Mick, who is out of breath...

Yes, it was so good that the latter day Stones never dared to play it again in concert.

Well there is an other version from 81 that IS the bollox! I think it is from the 2nd show in Philly.

What do you mean "never dared to play it again"? They played it occasionally, like Star Star and All Down The Line.

However, playing it along with Twenty Flight Rock was a little too much, so they eventually skipped it.

I believe "coked up" is the right word for it. Being unrehearsed, sloppy and coked up was considered cool in the 70s. I don't know if it was considered cool in 1981 though. Maybe it was that that Jagger eventually grasped, hence the Vegas era to come...

Unrehearsed? Sloppy? This track? You're listening to something I ain't hearing.

Btw, try playing Keith's intro, I dare you.

The original is the work of the Masters. But what can you do, Brian is gone. With Brian, truly the Rolling Stones.

Ah, the boogie rhythm guitar - yeah, it sure isn't the same without it. Oh, wait, it's the same rhythm guitar that Ronnie and Keith alternate with on the 1981-version...

By the way, that Shindig clip is the first and only time I have seen the Stones play live with beautiful dancing girls in back. Love those dancing girls!

Well, there was this performance of Honky Tonk Women when all their families joined them on stage.
The female members, of course. But no one wants to remember that occasion I guess.

I want to get lost in your rock 'n roll and drift away

I like it. Is this from Philadelphia? However, I don't like the sound of those amps, Boogie heads and EV cabinets (later Boogie cabinets). 1978 had the best "amp" sound.

It's not the sound of the amps and cabs what you're hearing here. It's the thin, spiky, treble mono video board recording that makes the sound.

Mathijs

I don't care about the source, I never liked that amp combo for them.
That being said, I do like Hampton and the way that turned out.

Er- it's not live. It's live vocals over pre-recorded backing track.

No way. It is live! What do you think Charlie Watts is doing?

If you watch closely, you can see the saxes playing. Billy Preston on organ.

The saxes kick in at the 0:26 mark.

Billy Preston was on the guest list for that Shindig Show on May 26 1965.

Mathijs, you think you are such a know-it-all. Have some class and apologize.
I love proving that you are wrong! LOL! LOL!

Yes, you too can be age 16 with a number one national hit on the charts. Plus more of those lovable dancing girls.

The singing guitar player is excellent. Plays the guitar with just one hand.

Er...listen again... there are no saxes entering at 0:26, that's audience screaming (which is fake after all). There's no Preston performing at all -in fact there's a half hour in between Preston's performance and the Stones's.

But most important: check's Richard's fingers on the board of his Gibson Firebrid VII: he's miming! He's just clowning around. His fingers are not playing what you hear.

By the way, all other tracks performed on this show where live vocals on prepared track.

thank god for that. it rocked in 1981, but if they tried to play it vegas-style, it would royally suck.
