Done deal.

No games, no tricks, no Wyman/Taylor wasnt there business...

The Stones playing being basically defined as Charlie, Ronnie, Kieth, and Mick on stage playing a song at SNL for this show.

Its a bet

Better clarify about a hypothetical pre-taped "Digital Shorts" scenario. It may already be filmed.

Edit: re-reading your post, it looks like the implication is LIVE ON STAGE, no tape delay, etc.

I have never seen a music guest on tape on SNL... would'nt it kind of ruin the whole LIVE aspect?

btw- I think everyone here should applaud SCL for sacrifcing his hard earned money... that he is willing to pay $500.00 for the Stones to play that show for us... that is pretty fkg admirable...
Gee thanks Max. I do admire your faith that our boys will play. But sadly. It will cost you.

YES, I do. The Stones will play SNL on the 19th. period.

OK Max, then I will take your word for it.
But I really want to place a bet on this.
If they do play, I will have a few beers on you.
If they don't play, I will have a few beers on you.
OK ?

I will buy the beer when they play... and they WILL play.

Well if they do play live - I wouldn't be surprised if they announced some more dates/tour too.............perfect 'venue' to do that................

I met a woman and she told me...."well baby...... well the blues ain't bad"...........

I am dissapointed and $5 poorer. I am ever the optimist, but...I think those that said that Keith can not longer play must be right. Just does not make any sence for all of them to be in the NYC area and not playing - the only logical answer is it's all over now. But - As John Lennon put it - its just a rock and roll band. But I am still sad.

Hansie-

I made an educated guess about Arcade Fire which I got by looking at Stones cover videos of The Last Time and seeing they played it recently and were free that night, but as for knowing whats really going to happen-I'll bet Mick is using the hype and opportunity to cut a tour deal and maybe even he doesnt know yet of the Stones will play.

If they sign a contract, maybe they'll play, or play a recorded video.

If no contract, I'm guessing they don't play and this turns into Micks show, which in a way is probably just another dig, intentional or not, at Keith. Hopefully I'm wrong about that part, and hopefully Keith has an editor in place by now for Life Part II so we don't have to relive this agony for the 60th anniversary tour.

The Stones are done, they were off the road during 5 years and back in 2006-2007 they were VERY BAD, it would be a disaster now. The rehearsals from last week were for the documentary, a couple of warhorses for the camera.

It's very clear that Mick didn't want to carry the whole circus again, he's a semi retired musician now.

The best we can get is a couple of big shows next year, a 15-song warhorse setlist and then goodbye.

One moment, georgelicks...there were some very sub-par shows in the 2006-07 tour, but there were some amazing ones as well. I saw several terrible (for the Stones) shows (mostly in Germany) and some great shows (in the USA) and an incandescent show in Budapest, Hungary where the Stones basically reduced a stadium with over 90,000 people to rubble...so please hold off on the tired dogma that the Stones were VERY BAD in 2006-07...very uneven, yes...I'll give you that...and no more.

P.S. I love Max's Kansas City's enthusiasm and positivity...your words to God's (Satan's?) ear!!!

I agree Turd:

I saw them in DC on BBT and they were great - Keith was in fine form. But that was early in the tour.

Right on Brother... right back at ya smileys with beer

ya know I have come think I must just be a lucky mofo, or maybe the Stones just play great shows when they come around these parts, or know i will be there... but... quite honestly all the shows I saw onBB were pretty good... and the reviews which were written after the shows said they were pretty good... and the people Iwas with said they were pretty good.... so.... I guess it is possible that in some far away land they played some crappy shows.... but the 5 shows I saw ( Boston, Omaha, Little Rock, Toronto, Wichita) were all pretty good. Iam some what mystified at people who say they hated the show they saw. I will add that I usually make sure to sit pretty close, so maybe that helped... but I always sit close.... dont care if it there is 20 people there... 200 people there... 2000 people there... or a 100,000 people there.... SIT CLOSE.. it is a rule.

They want us to be speculating and honestly I'm cool with that. The problem for me is how offensive it would be to NOT have the Stones appear with Jagger. They are about to celebrate their 50th anniversary as a band, and yet Jagger would consider going on SNL with a DIFFERENT band..?? Makes ZERO sense to me unless the Stones are dead as a band.

Seriously what band in the world could get away with things like this? No tour for 6 years and no 'new album', yet they will celebrate '50 years as a band'? Honestly if they are going to tour, I will be thrilled. If they do one last show, I will be thrilled. If they announce that they are no longer capable of putting on shows as a band, I will be disappointed but understanding.

They don't owe us a thing. Jagger can do whatever he wants! But to go on SNL without the Stones tells me that the band is having a BRUTAL time attempting to play together. They are getting old... I just hope they understand that its ok to take it a notch down, play more blues, write one last album, and play some massive final shows!

I for one am not expecting 78. I am expecting 2012. All of them are past their prime in terms of technical ability, but not musical output. If they'd try, they could produce one last beautiful record....

Well put, Drake! thumbs up

love the drake.

But he needs to give the tv back, don't you think?!

...now that we've had the foofighters/arcade fire announcement...hate the drake! and yes, I want the tv back!

Nerve-wracking? I find it almost orgasmic! It's a Rolling Stones joy ride! Been going on for 50 years! Enjoy it! Could be the last one.

The finale typically attracts a few unannounced guests, but we probably have a better chance of seeing Justin Timberlake or Jimmy Fallon (for a repeat of the "mirror" sketch) than the Stones backing Mick.

I'd stay away from open windows and Charlie Watts if I was you.

But seriously, this is why Mick won't be playing with Arcade or the Foos, or it would make the third SNL song look like the Stones were backing Mick.

If this isnt true, it should be ! live nationwide tv, all living members together on stage, to announce the new tour, and play together for the first time since 1981, sure beats out the blimp, Grand Central Station, the boat , and comes close to the flatbed truck in NYC . Pure genious if it does happen .

no, all i said was (in my own strange way) i was taking a leave of absense from worldbeat electropop dance crap

(the person who said whatever he said meant what he said. but i am not that
person anymore. that was like days ago. back then i barely knew who
foo fighters and arcade fire were. now i'm like becoming a fan)

when there's no stones around, its time to get up get out get into something new

but when there is stones around...

early betting line:

Arcade Fire "Let's Spend the night together"

Foo Fighters "Satisfaction"

Rolling Stones "start me up"

Sidebets: No Taylor SNL. But yes Taylor on the tour (not on stage for every song).

Max's KC,

I don't want your money.
I just want to really believe you.
Can you give me three reasons to support your certainty?

1)The Stones are in New York practicing.
2)Mick is hosting SNL, there is no (other) legit reason to host.
Every guest this year has had "an agenda", a reason to be there.
3)The 50th anniversary thing is fast approaching and there is a
TON of money to made every which way but loose. Mick knows this
is about the Stones, not just him. It is time to start cranking
this whole thing up. It makes no sense for Mick to do this alone, esp when
4)The band is together, they have been playing, they have been practicing
together, they are (supposedly) still a working band. They are a
group, together in a group, all together in NYC, it is time, they
know it, we know it, everyone knows, they need to play together to
get the 50th anniversary ball rolling. The Stones will play SNL.
5)Certain "supposedly" "in the know" people are not denying it.
6)The silence is deafening and telling.
7)If this was a stock, it's chart would look like this on Dec 15th 2011
and I would be buying it in anticipation the impending POP, surprised if it did not.

PS
If the Stones ever want to invite me to be an insider, sworn to shutting up,
they can feel free to contact me and invite me to attend cool stuff and I will add to the silence.

PPS
If I am wrong and Mick cares so little about his band mates to go do this gig alone, then I think that would be telling in another way.... on the other hand ..... it might be the case that he does cares about them... and he tried to make it work.... but it could not..... then he might say something like "Look man, we tried to do it, we tried to play together as a band, but we no longer "have it", it would hurt us more than help us to play together"....

If saddly that is the case..... I can accept that too. It is what it is.

If that is the case, and they cant play well enough anymore... I guarantee you that I am still happy. I am delighted. I rolled to the Stones as many times as I could over the past 30 years, and it was not easy.... they NEVER(rarely) played in my town. I had to travel 27 of the the 30 times I saw them, I got no multi-dates in one spot to easy rack up my numbers.... but I saw them as many times as possible and it was an absolute delight every time... I am happy... my expections are perfectly set... it is all good... it is ALL GREAT... no matter what happens.... But I am confident they can still play together and they will play together on SNL NEXT SATURDAY NIGHT!!! BE THERE!!!!

I know exactly what you mean. I feel like I felt when my then boyfriend (now husband) and I went to our first Stones concert in 1972 at Toronto's Maple Leaf Gardens. The Stones took the stage, my boyfriend (husband) said to me - "There they are!" and I was so crazed with excitement I responded "Who?". I looked at the stage and there they were, right in front of me.

Great times indeed.grinning smiley

Damn, this band has literally been my life. It's ingrained deeply into my heart and soul.
