In school reunions it would be no need for Mick and Keith to wear name tags they would be well recognised by their former classmates and teachers.

what sort of date did the school year start on in the early 50s?
i was wondering if they could've misread a september 1st date for january 9th.
the day-of-the-week calculator i consulted said september 1st was a saturday,
but maybe that wouldn't have gotten in the way of a school photo?
and it even might help explain the general cheeriness

Most kids get excited when they're getting their photos taken the time of year wouldn't matter.

another alias?? one should be enough for anyone, truly. you'll end up talking to yourself, and then what

and no, the time of year wouldn't matter - i didn't say it would.
i was asking what sort of date the school year started in the early '50s.

what i'm asking (again/still) is what date the school year started in the early 1950s.

Have you seen your Granny, baby, standing with Mick Jagger: Fellow pupils remember time at primary school attended by the Stones

Peter Holland (centre circle next to Jagger with a black cat) was at the Wentworth School. Keith Richards is circled to the left

Here's the register: that's 9th January in English dating, not 1st September (as it would be in the US) - assuming the picture was taken that day. School terms usually start on a Tuesday, which fits the January date too.

what i'm asking (again/still) is what date the school year started in the early 1950s.

Would have been early September. The implication that a photo taken in early 1951 would have been taken on the first day they ever met is fanciful. Kids did not start school at 7 years of age. They started in the school year during which they turned 5. Which, in this case would have been the school year which ran from September 1948 to summer 1949 (Mick would have turned 5 during the school summer holidays which preceded it).

whoa there, Gazza honey - are you implying that i implied that?!
i fiercely deny implying anything of the sort, and i resemble the insinuendoes!

i was idly curious whether they might have got the date backwards (01/09 or 09/01?),
and after that i got idly curious about whether the UK school year could start on september 1st anyway.

thumbs up smiley see?! nothing (0) at all implying that's when the Glimmers met! they met in a sandpit in 1947, everybody knows that thumbs up smiley

Good God, no -spinning smiley sticking its tongue out - but subsequent Daily Mail articles in recent days have specifically stated (in a self congratulatory manner) that they printed a school photo taken on the day Mick and Keith first met on their first day at school. Aged 7. Revisionist nonsense. Kids didnt start school at 7.

I would not lower myself to assume that the Department of Historical Accuracy would be guilty of such a faux-pas or total fabrication.

The date - as it's written - would be 9th January 1951. 9-1-51 would never be transcribed as 1st September in the UK, even back then, I'd imagine. The kids' dates of birth are also written in the same day-month-year format.

9.1.51 was probably the first day of the second term after the Christmas/New Year holiday. 9th Jan 1951 was a Tuesday.
