"Mad Brained Bear" in Stray Cat Blues

in this lovely song, one of the finest on Let It Bleed, ( and Ya-Ya's ) what could be the inspiration for the phrase 'mad brained bear'?

is it a literary reference, or some slang that is now archaic...

I think its just a metaphor for "rapist"

there are various folk tales of rogue bears raping human females

and this unusually agressive dolphin got a lot of play on youtube recently

I used to think Mick sang in MIDNIGHT RAMBLER "brain-bear jangler." And then I saw the printed lyrics and it was "brainbell jangler." So what's a brainbell jangler?!
