Streets of ......, ...... calling, The ...... boys!

Yep, you guessed it, this is all about the London songs..many hundreds of them:

[en.wikipedia.org]

But which one is the best? My guess goes to The Clash and 'London Calling' but my favorite is 'London by Night' performed by Frank Sinatra...What's yours? Is it maybe "All the Umbrellas in London" by The Magnetic Fields? or simply 'Streets of London' by Ralph McTell?

Best Stones-London-Song?

I was driving home early Sunday morning through Bakersfield...

The only experience I had with the London police was a good one.

I got lost, and three of them offered directions back to my hotel.
Of course, this was in the middle of the Knotting Hill Festival, so damn near everyone was having fun at the time.....

Yeah, the schoolboy was not from London, but decided to check out what he heard about the town.
As did Doxa. I hope it was not disappointing.

I think Miss Amanda Jones is also quite a bit about London.

I think nearly all Jagger/Richards observational songs were about London until Exile On Main Street. There were a few exceptions like Sympathy, Midnight Rambler, and the spaced out songs on Satanic.

There were several around the punk era. London Lady by The Stranglers and London Girl by The Jam spring to mind.

Come on, you're a genius and a romantic.

Love Sinatra, the arrangement, the mood, the feeling, the neighborhood.

That song always makes me want to dance.

One of my favorites is Nat King Cole's version of
A Nightingale sang in Berkeley Square

Ian Dury wrote loads of songs referencing London (& Essex) but this was probaly the most comprehensive............

A Bus Driver's Prayer.........

I guess Londoners will appreciate the familiars in this one....

My Old Man...........

I met a woman and she told me...."well baby...... well the blues ain't bad"...........

It's old, it's sentimental, the botany is hopelessly wrong, the lines about costers and little London Sparrows are corny...

... but it gets me every time.

(and the other sort of London Pride ain't bad, either)

Perhaps to take the spotlight off of Beatles vs. Stones, we could start a Sinatra/Darin rivalry thread?
