I agree with Doxa, and I seriously doubt there will ever be a tour
If I were part of the band I would consider doing a +/- 30 min special for the Olympics of course if every band memeber can be in a good enough shape for it.
This would be a short set, after long, but cool rehearsals, playing about 10 songs in a Worldwide broadcast for the 50th and then call it quits.
The band would feature MT and BW.
Suggestions in no particular order :
HTW
Satisfaction
Little Red Rooster
a Chuck Berry Cover
Miss You
Angie
Start Me Up
Brown Sugar
Gimme Shelter
Time Waits For No One

Another idea :
A tribute concert with many bands and one or more Stones participating on one song or another + 1 song with all the bands and then 2 final songs 100% Rolling Stones without guests.

Never hear about any throat problems. But it makes sense that there is some acute reason why the possible set of concerts - "tour" - was postponed. I don't beleeve the "counting started when Charlie joined in" crap at all. There needs to be some serious reasons why they missed the big year. Okay, we will get the documentary and other "lovely things" but for a band that pretends to still exist that's not enough...

Missed the "Big Year"? The "Big Year" (Anniversary Year) runs from July 12, 2012 through July 11, 2013. True, there will be lots of "lovely things" and those "lovely things" will include new tunes and at least a few live performances, if not a small scale tour. Good enough?

So-----HAS anyone heard or read anything about throat problems?
Seems it would be almost worth a call or email to the author of the Norwegian piece linked to above.
EDITED: done -- I contacted the author and asked whether this is conjecture or does she have a source for this info (Dandelion, I cc:d you on the email)

I guess this a translation error. Health in Norwegian is helse, but throat is hals. Translating an English article "health problem" has turned into "halsproblem"(throat).

Would still be a major error for a journalist to make...

nah - a news-regurgitatorwriter making a 2-letter error in haste,
and/or not noticing that a spellchecker screwed up, wouldn't be unusual at all.
that Rolling Stone article referred to rumours (probably from iorr!) about health problems
so thanks Beaver for sorting out the misinformation

I'm norwegian - and a journalist
It would be a MAJOR error if a journalist in Norway mistook health for throat, indeed

okay Dandelion P, i am not here to argue with you, but you know the world of news reporting
is populated by a lot of types who don't qualify as journalists (at least as i define the term!)
that's why i used a different word for the kind of writer who could easily make this kind of mistake.
yeah it's a major error for a journalist, but it sounds pretty likely for a hurried hack
(and not anywhere near as major as reporting that someone was "OD'ing on alcohol" when they weren't ... just for example! :E)

Wasn't it a Norwegian newspaper that mistakenly said Dewey defeated Truman in '48?

IF the reporting is even accurate, a 'health problem' could run an entire gamut of potential problems...

it sort of sounds like you missed this: [www.rollingstone.com]
(and as noted above, the source of that speculation could well be an iorr thread or three)
until further notice, i bet this Norwegian "news" is a mistranslation/typo, as Beaver proposed above.
i understand that that would be a major error, as the good Dandelion P says - major as in seriously embarrassing -
but it sure seems like a very easy mistake to make, especially when you're in a hurry and/or aren't sure which one is Keith :E
[wandering off to ponder the class of major errors that are easy to make as opposed to
major errors that someone had to put considerable effort into, like - er, never mind]
