Yes, Jagger is obviously wasted. He really flubs a lot of lines...

Er, I sure hope we all know and understand it is a stage act by Jagger, that it was his intention to sound like this on this tour. It is his stage persona, much like Bowie invented stage persona's and alter ego's.

I mean, it's not real.

Mathijs

Sure, he may be hamming it up a bit, but you DON'T know that he WASN'T wasted now do you!

There's a minor point though -Ollie Brown can hardly be heard. I always loved his bells and whistles, like there's really a party going on on stage. But now only a cowbell once in while can be heard.

And we need more cowbell!

Mathijs

agree 100% with your post on this thread (especially this one). I always thought that this was very special from the 75/76 area. But maybe my judgement is clouded, as my first Stones concert was 4 may 1976.

I am very happy about the bootleg series. Great great great records, each of its own right and it is fantastic to listen to them in a great sound But wait: I am only 4 songs in, let's see what is going on on the other songs

Yeah, it's not like Mick was some teetotaler. I've seen plenty of pictures/footage of him drinking and drugging. His stage persona is that of a much more wild, confident and outspoken person than he is in real life, but even quiet and reserved Mick took part in the festivities. As you said, maybe he was hamming it up, but there's also a pretty good chance that Mick, in L.A., in 1975, was partying quite a bit.

Well, I think you all can really forget about that. By all accounts Jager never was one to party real hard, and he certainly wouldn't party hard with 20.000 people and the entire nations press in front of him. And, he sounds the same on each and very show of that tour. Sure he would have a drink of snort after a show, but really forget about Jagger ever being really drunk or out of it on stage.

Smoking hot. July 11 was bad. 2 days for rest. The band comes back full of energy July 13.

Quick compare between Brussels and LA. LA has more presence. More punchy sound but not necessarily compressed to my ears. This is really a great sound for a 75 show.
Angie has a great piano part. Gimme is perfect ! You can't always get too - fantastic version with great sax. 15'23" ! (11' on Brussels) really the guitars are upfront in the mix and the interaction not a vain word (no Taylor miss - you realize how Wood has a total freedom at the time).
Keith @#$%& up Happy. Fortunately Mick is here.
Great energy in Heartbreaker.
Fingerprint is the best song of the 75 tour IMO. Here again each guitar is clearly audible.
Who can pretend Wild Horses is not perfectly played ? Thanks Billy for the piano and Woody for the solo around 5'30".
Listen to Bill's work during Brown sugar. A smooth rotative bass.
Great deep blues harp on MR.
Jjf is a fury and the guitar intro is special.
Guitars on Sympathy ? If you have a decent hifi, No word !

no Fanfare ? Like on the audience tape ... Curious.
Am I wrong or I heard Mick saying Jimmy Page during Star Star ?

Just down to YCAGWYW and I miss Ollie Brown very much. The whole drumming of Charlie just makes sense when you listen very closely to the percussion in the background especially with the fills. So far the only letdown

320 mp3's for me...got both flac/mp3 on the other two shows and couldn't tell the difference no matter how hard I tried so saved on money and file space.

Same here. I had a guy I know give me the FLAC for Brussels. I couldn't tell a difference, but I saved them. I'll probably try and find the FLAC for Hampton and LA also, just to hang on to in case one day I ever want them.

Listened to the mp3s on my iPod through the car stereo on my way home. I agree with some of the comments above, not much depth and kinda harsh and tiring for my ears. I found myself forwarding to the next song a lot.

They play very well though. Funny I expected the IYCRM/GOOMC medley just like on LYL, never heard it this way stitched together. I'm sure I can get a hold of the FLAC files later and will give them another listen through my better quality headphones.

Here's some mastering i've done on Gimme Shelter
[rapidshare.com]

I've restored some of the clipping and dynamics
Also some adjustments on the drum sound...

The steel band. They were in 3 sections at the front of the lotus stage: left, right, center. One group would play, then the other, then the other. When I was there, I don't recall the house lights being dimmed for them, they just played.

So finally I am at Sympathy for the Devil. And finally Ollie Brown is a bit higher in the mix. What a great version of the song. Someone has posted the "Vegas Conspiracy" on this song. I think it's just @#$%& great! This version has the percussions as in the original recording and the attempt at the blistering solo, but with far more energy and rawness. Ah, I am happy today.

Good night, sleep tight

Thanks, Tom
the Steel Band Association of America are mentioned on the Rocks Off Setlistpage but only for track 23.
so they joined back in for the finale - makes sense.

From what I remember, they weren't even listed as a support act, nor were they introduced. They just stated playing.

Well, not true. Particularly not for the 75/76 tours! Richards, Wood and Jagger as well didn't put a foot on stage without some heavy snorting before. It only changed later . .

If mick did some blow before the show and a little bit during, that doesn't qualify as being wasted or out of it.

Right. Jagger is not really that kind of guy. But I was talking about the "only after show refreshments" comment. And in 75/76 it's been a bit more than just a little . . .
