True to its name, 'Americana' is filled with all American folk numbers like 'This Land Is Your Land,' 'Tom Dooley,' and 'Clementine.'

If there is a tour, it'll definitely be "inneresting" (as Neil would say).

They're not that goofy. These guys put a good stamp of authenticity on every one of these tunes, fun stuff. Neil has been playing the crap out of these little gems lately, on a kick I guess you'd say. Reliving his wasted youth or something. peace

At this point I would have thought EVERYONE knows... DO NOT second guess good ole Neil... If he is doing it, it is (probably) worth listening to....

I remember, long ago, being so mad at him for that Shocking Pinks shit ( this was before "I got it" ) I paid up for front row, took a date and he played/did the Shocking Pinks, when wha wha whine I wanted Crazy Horse... wha wha whine.... I was pissed..... for a couple of years... then I starting getting it.... now it is cool that I got to see him do the Pinks things.... freekin Neil has a license to do whatever he wants.

The moral?

If the Stones did a covers album of 80 year old blues songs, we'd be all over it.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse will release their new LP Americana on June 5th. It's their first album together since Greendale in 2003, and their first album with the full Crazy Horse line-up of Billy Talbot, Ralph Molina and Frank "Poncho" Sampedro since Broken Arrow in 1996. The songs on Americana are all classic American folk songs, including "This Land Is Your Land," "Gallows Pole," "Tom Dooley" and "Clementine."

At the Slamdance Film Festival earlier this year, Young talked about the album. "A very young choir of children plays with Crazy Horse [on the album,]" he said. "They're songs we all know from kindergarden, but Crazy Horse has rearranged them, and they now belong to us."

"What ties these songs together is the fact that while they may represent an America that may no longer exist," says a press release announcing the new album."The emotions and scenarios behind these songs still resonate with what’s going on in the country today with equal, if not greater impact nearly 200 years later. The lyrics reflect the same concerns and are still remarkably meaningful to a society going through economic and cultural upheaval, especially during an election year. They are just as poignant and powerful today as the day they were written."

The disc was recorded at Audio Casa Blanca and was produced by Neil Young and John Hanlon with Mark Humphreys.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse made their first live appearance since 2004 last month at the MusicCares tribute to Paul McCartney in Los Angeles. They played "I Saw Her Standing There" that many critics called a highlight of the star-studded show, though the band has released no touring plans. "I honestly have not heard a solitary thing about touring," Crazy Horse drummer Ralph Molina wrote on his Facebook page last month.

Here is the complete track-listing for Americana:

"Oh Susannah"
"Clementine?"
"Tom Dooley"
"?Gallows Pole?"
"Get A Job?"
"Travel On?"
"High Flyin’ Bird?"
"She’ll Be Comin ’Round The Mountain"
"This Land Is Your Land?"
"Wayfarin’ Stranger?"
"God Save The Queen"

Song list looks interesting but what God Save The Queen has to do with "Americana"? Do they teach this song in US kindergarten now?

What a bummer, I expected new scorching material and they reunite for this...

For me the biggest "Neil Young & Crazy Horse" news of 2012 is the flood of audience tapes from the 1991 Weld tour that's shared at Dime... The whole tour actually. thumbs up

I agree. I respect everything Neil does and usually he takes that other route you don't expect, but at their age and without 10 years of new material recently, I would have liked to see something like what they were rehearsing in that 30 minute video a few months ago. Pretty sneaky and misleading trailer of whats to come.

The real problem I have is that they'd most likely play alot from it live. If they were to release it then do a Crazy Horse tour with everything you really want to hear, it wouldn't be so bad. If they do long shows it might not be so bad, but the way I would like it: 1) Great new Crazy Horse material like they're known for, 2) Crappy new album but none of it is played on tour, or 3) crappy album, and they play alot of it on tour while the rest is essentially greatest hits.

But like I said, Neil usually goes against the mold, and this seems no different. He probably doesn't care and he shouldn't. I just hope this new thing is good since we don't know how much longer we can expect from them.

He's been doing this his whole career, so there's nothing to miss.

He's gone on record saying "The Shocking Pinks" episode was his reaction
to Geffen wanting a "Neil Young record" ... Geffen got "Trans". Kinda
smacks of Saul Zaentz suing John Fogerty for "plagiarizing himself"
with "Old Man Down the Road". Personally, I think that was Neil
throwing an excuse out there for his style changes throughout
The '80s ... just about every record was messing with his fans
expecting one thing and getting another.

Again, sure hope he reconsiders doing something with Stills and Furay.
Killer band, 'twas. Two+ records from those guys vs how many with all
the others is a creative crime. Ah well!

I've got every album Neil Young ever made and have followed him for more than 40 years, but, sorry, this sounds cringe-inducing.
