About Keith RICHARDS and the X-pensive Winos

You like'em
You don't like'em
No big deal

Keith RICHARDS and the X-pensive Winos desserve their own page !

Only one show in Paris on December 7th, 1992, I saw them, great memories,
The best ones, the rehearsals that I've seen with a couple of freaks thru'
a kind of porthole in the afternoon.
The Keith's Gimme Shelter version was also unforgettable with these little stars shinin' with shade of purple lights in the background of the scene...

I love Keith Solo. Its just great music. Long jams and daring songwriting. I am not a Waddy fan. Steve took me a while to appreciate with that one and only drum sound he produces, but I am about as big a Keith Solo fan as a Stones fan....well maybe.

I got to see the Winos three times: DAR Constitution Hall in DC 11/88, Academy in NYC 12/31/92, and Beacon NYC 2/93. Great to see Keef in a small hall fronting a cracking band.

Why not Keith Richards instead of Keith RICHARDS?

Thank you always, Honestman.

I still own the shrink packaged T shirt.
I didn't want to open the package.
It will remain unchanged in the future.smiling smiley
What kind of logo put on this T-shirt, anyway?

sweet photos, HonestMan - thanks for posting them! do you already own the (very low-fi) dvd from that Paris show?
there's a charming moment when Gentleman Keith rescues the lovely Sarah Dash from a wardrobe calamity:
the heel of her shoe got caught in her hem and she couldn't get it unstuck herself, but Keith's graceful courtesy saved the day :E

HM I was there too on the left side of the Zénith stage but honestly I found the show to be far too long with far too many "groovy" (read "boring" ) songs that went on and on and on...
Years later I DLed the boot of this show only to find myself unable to listen to it till the end. A more compact gig would have been a winner imo.

I like the fact that for Paris Keith altered the setlist (he opened with "999" what a show-starter!) but imho after one hour of music people were starting to get bored.

Plus it was FAR TOO loud I mean it was so loud it became painful... and I won't mention the ringing in the ears after we got out... confused smiley

If you caught this tour feel free to share your memories!

I thought the Wino tours, both of them, both albums were phenomenal. Keith's guitar playing, his interaction and joy with the band, his leadership was a beautiful thing.
- his guitar work was way better than his work w/ Stones of same period.
While there were countless goosebump moments (Keith's playing on "Struggle" e.g.) I think the Wino's rendition of "Time is on my Side" is the best I have ever seen.

I used to own the VHS from the show, and my mistake I didn't took time to rip it for converting in DVD. It was really a low-fi VHS, for die-hard fans only.
Later come the bootleg audio but I wonder if a DVD of this show could be a big improvment confused smiley Too late for me to do it anyway as my VHS tape has faded away and on my copy at least it's useless to try...

Fantastic photos HMN, thanks for sharing them!

Lucky you could see the rehearsals! And agree abouth the Gimme Shelter version.

I attended the Buenos Aires show on November 7th 1992, unforgettable night! It was the show that opened the door to Argentina for the Rolling Stones... You might know the story: Keith said to Mick a year or two later after his solo visit here: "Mick, we got to tour there"!!!!!

Cologne 1992. It was great and I will never forget it. The show was broadcast on German TV, so it is available in excellent video and audio.

There was a guy with a video camera at London 17/12, i think Ivan Neville saw him and was pointing at him. Tape was confiscated. A friend of mine was recording 18/12 and the second tape was confiscated. I got away with taping the 17/12 and soundcheck though.
