First time I've seen this pic of Keith and Mick on Peru. Don't know who took it, are there any more from this trip?

In that photo Mick's hair looks real, as opposed to the cover shot on Thru The Past Darkly

Mick was overheard on this trip:
Asking people ... what's at Machu Picchu, boy?

One of Brian's "Mr Shampoo" bottles would have come handy... grinning smiley

Early 1968 Mick had the idea to go with the Stones to some remote Indian tribes in South America and record together with them the new Stones album. True story. Without a doubt inspired by Brian's Pipes of Joujouka. However the psychedelic road they were on was quickly abandond, and nothing recorded with the tribes. True story.

Mick with Marianne and her son Nicholas visted Brazil in December 1967 - January 1968 so perhaps, if he did indeed want to do such a thing it came to him during that visit.

There was talk of that Maxigasm film in 1968, but it all seems to have come to nothing and the visit to South America during December 1968 - January 1969 was nothing more than a holiday for Keith, Anita, Mick and Marianne.

From Bill's book "Stone Alone" :

As Christmas neared Brian and Suki went to his much-loved Ceylon for the holiday. Mick and Marianne, Keith and Anita flew to Lima, Peru. For some time Keith had been reading about magic, and wanted to visit an expert in Rio de Janeiro. "I'm not frightened of any consequences,' he said. 'I believe magic is only a combination of natural forces.' They flew out on Keith's twenty-fifth birthday 18 December. Mick had always been interested in other cultures and had been studying comparative mythology, he said. He wanted to look at the Incas of Peru and contemporary Indians. They stayed in Lima where Mick and Keith ran into trouble at the luxurious Crillon Hotel. They entered a public room of the hotel wearing brightly coloured trousers and no shirts. Refusing the manager's request to dress more soberly, they were asked to leave. They moved to a more welcoming place; from where they hired a jeep to travel around the country.

Nevertheless it should be mentioned that through mid/ late 60's there was constant talk of plans and doing this or that. Partly cheap talkin from the psychedelic era/ partly publicity. Most things of course never happened.
