"Tour later in the year" a rumor from an unlikely source....
Posted by: Justin ()
Date: March 10, 2012 21:18

Take a listen @ 2:52 to this interview from Mike Love of the Beach Boys yesterday

[kearth101.radio.com]

Radio Interviewer: "You guys are gonna have a fiftieth anniversary, the Rolling Stones are gonna have a fiftieth anniversary...I mean who would have thought?"

Mike Love: "They're going to do their own thing later in the year I believe. We're going to grab the summer...."

Thought it was worth mentioning...

I buy that. This way they don't have competition and they obviously are slow to make decisions- maybe it starts 7/12 and goes for a year- that's the date of the grand announcement?

If true, it will hopefully mean an Arena tour as opposed to stadiums - which is much better. It makes sellouts easy for the band and creates a 'buzz' as with only 17,000-18,000 tix available per show, they will go fast (assuming of course....that this rumor is true...and that by doing their own thing later this year they do it in the US/Canada or Europe).

For your information, the upcoming Beach Boys tour is one of the most anticipated tours of the year. Their original modest plan of a simple 50 date total worldwide tour has exploded into 50 dates just in the US. Many venues are complete sellouts which prompted them to add second shows and new venues in nearby towns to accommodate for the demand. The Hollywood Bowl sold out in just a few days....capacity 17,000.

They are also offering various VIP packages for each city with some mighty high prices...front row tickets, meet and greets and etc...ranging from $400 to $1500 (depending on the city)...all of the top 2 highest VIP packages are sold out in each city.

Whether you like the Beach Boys or not...suck it up...this tour is nothing to scoff at.

Why do you think the Stones will not follow their typical schedule with the U.S. first ?

BB will not hit the typical Stones "big places"

You said the BB won't tour Europe. Last time I checked those cities were in Europe. It is very doubtful they will do anything but follow their same schedule....July/August rehearsals, end of August...US tour.

I don't care enough about the beach boys to pay to see them, but I'm not a hater. Not exactly music that speaks to a lot of Canadians, haha!

Well if they can't sel lout in SoCal,they're not going to sell out anywhere. The Beach Boys still have a diehard appeal. It'll be interesting to see if the tour holds up quality and chemistry wise. If it does,I might take in a show.As for the Stones. I think Mike Love's comment was jsut a throwaway remark. It's been long specualted that it'll be later in the year if the Stones do anything.

They're doing pretty well all over SCL...a lot of the East Coast were sellouts which prompted them to add several new venues in the area. It looks like they underestimated the demand for this particular tour..nice to see that it's selling very well. Hope you can make it to a show!

I have been concerned that Mick might be leaning more towards putting more emphasis on 2013 rather than 2012. At least as far as actual touring goes. Might start later than we think. The 50th anniversary year starts on July 12, even though it is actually the beginning of their 51st year. Could be a year long celebration with the bulk of the touring and a new album actually occurring in 2013. Charlie's anniversary seems to mean something to Mick.

Why didn't the Charlie anniversary "mean" something to Mick during the 40th Anniversary in 2002?

Because it was 40 rather than 50? Actually they did MSG on January 18, 2003 which was four days from Charlie's 40th with the band. I would imagine he at least got a pat on the back. For whatever reason Mick has mentioned Charlie's anniversary within the context of the 50th anniversary conversation. I suppose he could use it as a reason to tour later in the year or early next year. Might just be a tool to buy the gang a little more time to pull it all together. Lot's of lovely things to come, I guess.

There is no correlation to Charlie's anniversary with the beginning or end of any tour. Any show near or far from the date is pure coincidence. But knowing you, you'd make nothing into something....if there was a concert being played in April you'd say that was in celebration of Charlie's anniversary because it occurred 70 days before July 12 and considering Charlie is 70 years old...that was obviously the reason behind that.

Damn this gets frustrating with some of you guys. Please carefully re-read what I have said. Mick is the one that mentioned Charlie's first gig with the band within the context of the 50th anniversary discussion. Like the rest of us, I am left to speculate as to what significance it has to him. My guess is that they plan on doing a number of things beginning with the book on July 12, 2012 right through Charlie's anniversary and possibly into the summer of 2013. I am sure we would all prefer they tour this summer, release a new album this summer, but it may not work out exactly as many are anticipating. There may be more things planned for 2013 then 2012, I don't know. They may feel they need a little more time to get all they have planned accomplished. They may want to stretch it for an entire year beginning on July 12, 2012 and ending on July 11, 2013. Let's just wait and see. The good news is that many lovely things are going to happen. The sooner the better, of course.

My Live Nation source says the Beach Boys show will be approx 3 hrs. Not sure if that includes an intermission.

They should do all their shows on the sunny beaches of California.
