I was pro the Iraq War myself, until, as a classics scholar, I was perturbed at the cultural vandalism committed by the US Army and their desecration of ancient art from the days of the epic of Gilgamesh.

I was also pro Afghanistan, due to the desecration of the buddhas by the Taliban. I am exceedingly against cultural savagery, be it on both sides.

Perhaps what you're referring to is different, but I do recall the initial reports of Baghdad museums being looted. And it turned out the artifacts were safe. The museum curators had merely hidden the artifacts to prevent their looting. They'd been saved not looted.

Dan Cruickshank's documentary did it for me, I'm afraid. Thanks for enlightening me as to the US' efforts.

I think, as you get older, you tend to agree more with the Daily Telegraph as opposed to The Guardian.

The Telegraph is far too left-wing. The Daily Mail is the one true voice of rational thought.

haha, the daily mail...yeah right.

I'm sure Paul Dacre doesn't even agree with half the right-wing reactionary crap that's in the Daily Mail, and he's the editor !

"I do recall the initial reports of Baghdad museums being looted"

And these goddam scumbags neocons leaked the "info" in the main US papers that the stolen goods had been bought by French collectors (shades of the French-bashing).

Never forget nor forgive... angry smiley

Sometimes when I'm in a bad mood when I look at the images of maimed US soldiers I think : "well serves you right. In 2003 we did advise you NOT to invade Iraq" eye rolling smiley
