I think he means they are registered screen names (lurkers, not posters) who appear at the bottom of the screen as being online.

MI5 is more or less the UK equivalent of the US Homeland security (I guess) or maybe FBI, ie top level domestic security - internal threats. (although you can't call MI5 like I've heard you can call the FBI) An MI5 intercept is MI5 bugging your phone or computer for example. MI6 is the UK equivalent of the CIA. ie deals with international stuff.

Do we actually have 'lurkers' I always assumed, perhaps wrongly, that if you bothered to create a iorr account and register a name etc, then log in, you would naturally post stuff...you could lurk just as effectively without registering!
