>Mick did shoot up from under the floor, but I thought that was at the beginning of the show?

Mick hasn't done that since VL tour.

Instead, for 'Out Of Control', they had Mick sort of shot up from underneath the stage (or at least the illusion of it).

Video evidence:

One of the finest moments during 'modern era'. It is fascinating to see the band so inspired and focused on playing new material (even though Woodie conributing next to nothing).

Ronnie's all over the with the wah-wah pedal, Doxa! To me, he's always done a fine job on this song...he's in the background, adding texture to the song...taking a few leads but mostly at the end of the song.

I know both the B2B and NS tour are favorite tours amongst people to write Ronnie off--and at times I do agree that he was pretty absent during this time---but I believe he had some great moments during the NS tour...When The Whip Comes Down, Midnight Rambler, Out of Control...

Justin. I think Doxa means Ronnie was a no show during this tour. He even admited it. Remember Mick's plee to him to sober uo before Licks? It was because he was in a drunken stupor most nights during this tour. Saw them 4 times during this tour and beleive me Keith held it together because of Ronnie's state. As I stated before this would of been THE best tour ever if ronnie was on top of his game.

It was a fantastic tour...still my favorite. And after Licks...maybe the only tour of the modern era that DESERVED a DVD release.

As I said, I have no problem saying that Ronnie was MIA for much of the NS tour...he was even worse during B2B, in my opinion. Nothing can top that tour...you wouldn't have guessed he was even on stage if you listened to the audio recordings! But I'll stick to my guns when I say that "Out of Control" was the one song that Ronnie seemed to have stepped to the plate for...perhaps his only time each night.

His work on this tune from the Live at the 10 Spot show during B2B was great I thought:

By the time they made their way to Columbus when I saw them, the cage was gone. Good thing, probably - sounded like a cringe-worthy idea. Instead, for 'Out Of Control', they had Mick sort of shot up from underneath the stage (or at least the illusion of it).

For some reason, the song didn't seem to be played with the same intensity on the NS at tour as it did the B2B tour. Conversely, I thought 'Saint of Me' was even better on the NS tour than previously.

Mick also rose up from under the stage during the intro to Sympathy on the Voodoo Lounge Tour.

Yep, I remember that clearly!

And to the people saying Ronnie was largely a non-contributor on this tour, I can't disagree. He had good moments, but a good example of his playing (or lack there of) is the soundboard boot of one of the Philly shows (taken from a ALD feed I believe) where his guitar is the only audible one. He doesn't add much and the songs sound hollow. This was Keith's last great tour, and possibly Ronnie's worst.

I agree , that NO SECURITY tour was a favorite of mine, right behind '72 and '75!! It was amazing, and I loved that Hartford show. That tour, I saw 7 shows in about 2 1/2 weeks and caught pneumonia! It was worth it, I recovered and the memories are sweet!

The 97-99 tour was fantastic, incredible that a band who was around for 36 years back then had so much energy.

i could be wrong but i think mick got stuck in the cage at one of the early shows causing a spinal tap moment, after that it was gone.

it seems strange seeing people talk about ronnie being so out of it because the shows i saw[detroit and las vegas] he played great and it was two of the best shows i've seen them do since the 70s.

as far as i know the thing had flexible "bars", so i think the "i could be wrong" is the right part of that statement

Yes that is true, he was like the side show gorilla who gets mad, snarls around
goes out of control, pulls the bars apart and escapes.... it was kind of silly

I was just reminded of that shot in LSTNT, where Mick pretends to pull some bars apart (in SSC).

No Security, saw it in Chicago.
Strange, since there really weren't any stage props at all on that tour...

I seem to recall it both nights in DC and Detroit too.

Definitely NO cage either night in D.C. I was at both and have very specific memories of those shows (for reasons we need not get into). eye popping smiley

Great pictures georgelicks, thank you.

And... that is "No Security" tape, for sure (I think)

If this is a correct translation...?

para que Mick tenga algo que hacer?

so that Mick has something to do?

... if you'd watch the documentary like i keep telling you to! :E
this footage is used when they're discussing the plans for the 40 Licks stage -
whether or not Mick needs some more props to add variety to his onstage moves/activities
"it's not the cage again is it?" "it's in danger of becoming the cage"

No, but the cage itself got stuck (at one of the earlier shows in the tour) and couldn't be lowered down from the ceiling. After that, it was scrapped.

at one of the 2006 shows i was at the big flowered inflatable tongue they had during Honky Tonk Women got stuck -
they couldn't get it to deflate all the way, and it was wiggling around frantically all through Sympathy for the Devil
which didn't do much for the menacing atmosphere they strive for in that number :E

that moving b-stage got jammed a few times too - that was always exciting! eye popping smiley
but i digress, sorry!

Nice to hear that something exciting happens sometimes in modern era Stones gig...

I was at one show, can;t recall which year, and one of the huge inflatable women on side of stage wouldn't blow up. Looked horrible, LOL!
The FF documentary is the first thing that popped in my mind. That Jagger himself knew the cage was a terrible idea, and actually used it as a punchline. Like "will so-and-so be another cage idea?" Anyway - same thing Sssoul says.

Hm, that is not the show I saw them at. That is SW tour. Saw them all up and down the East Coast that tour. They obviously were having several; problems with those ladies.
