Ian McLagan's "Truly"

Is this the only studio song cut by the New Barbarians?

apparently there were four - one for each Barbarian
except for Keith (who "sponsored" the tracks as gifts) and Ronnie (who had a whole albumful already)
the only other one that's surfaced (as far as i know!) is Fingerprint Filin', which was "Stanley's track"

as for Truly ... i hope you've heard the long version! it's charming in that way that only the Barbarians know how to be :E

You got those crazy How Do You Do Africa songs. Jams really.
Plus the Drug Dealer Tapes have New Barbarians Studio Track #1, #2, and #3.
Just instrumental though.

well but Africa (which i love!) was a rehearsal - i think Elmo Lewis is asking about studio tracks
but if rehearsals and sound checks count, there's a bunch of those! notably Run Rudolph Run and Act Together

mac still performs it occasionally at his weekly gig here...decent faux-reggae

Heard Neil Young gave them the name...& considered joining them?

I asked Neils manager & he said Keith & Neil got together in LA once...but gave not other details.

yeah apparently both of those things are right -
Boz Scaggs and Neil Young both came to a couple of the Barbarian rehearsals

Yeah, ssoul, I've got a version that's 9 or 10 minutes long. Cool stuff.

Just managed to find the single version - it came out in Holland on 1979 as the B-side to La De La. Been looking for this record for so long - the New Barbarians @ 45 rpm! Nice picture sleeve too...

The 12" version is included on Mac's reissue of TROUBLEMAKER, retitled HERE COMES TROUBLE. It goes on forever of course, but its a great groove and Keith is more dominant in the mix on the dub version.

I have a spare copy of the pic sleeve for the 7" version of La De La / Truly which I will send free of charge to anyone who wants it.

I was listening and watching some James McMurtry and was delighted to see Mac playing with him. I do not know if the association has continued. Mac seems to have his own projects. I think he is a terrific player. I have no idea why he has not been invited to play with the Stones on a regular basis.
