If it's streaming I might record it and give copies to friends. Buying it is not even a consideration.

I think Bruce consumed a hefty bowl of Lucky Charms before the recording session.

I don't find it boring at all. It's a good romp. Much better than the "We Take Care of Our Own" anthem tune.

Did he find someone to do his vocals for him? If not, I am not interested.

He's not always.

But I did get "The Ghost of Tom Joad" the other day believing the hype that it was another "Nebraska" (which IS brilliant).

It's not.

I'm listening to it for the second time through. This album is AWFUL! He's even managed to bastardize his previously magnificent "Land of Hope & Dreams." Nearly every song features the same lumbering, bass heavy, apparently electronic, drum cadence off-set by an auto-tuned choir and meaningless electronic blips and aural geegaws. A highlight is a RAPPER on "Rocky Ground" as well a variety of classic civil rights era hymn snippets and references and a chorus of people whistling and electronic clapping on "We Are Alive." At least there is no "Queen of The Supermarket."

I haven't listened to the rest of the album yet, but I started off with "Land of Hope and Dreams" - one of my favorite songs of his. You are correct - the studio version is indeed awful...I couldn't even sit through the whole song. Give me any of the live versions going back to 1999 any day!

Imagine these songs being played along side "Thunder Road," "Badlands," "Ramrod" and even top drawer recent fare like "Mary's Place" or "The Rising." One shudders to think.

OK, I STAND CORRECTED - and gladly so. I went on a predictable rant yesterday dissing the new Bruce Springsteen album as being sophomoric and overburdened with modern production gimmickry. It DID sound like sh*t on my computer speakers and it wasn't until I played it, uninterrupted on a real stereo system that I realized what it is - and what it isn't. What it isn't is a rock and roll record. Ther...e's no "Ramrod" or "Darlington County" or "Born To Run" on this album. There's no mushed up instrumentation compressed together for a damned iPod. What it IS, thanks to new producer Ron Aniello, is a cinematic soundscape in which instrumentation and voices (yes, even a rapper) come and go in the mix like characters in a film. Imagine, a marachi horn section marching out of the left channel followed by a scorching guitar solo emerging from the right. It is an absolutely fascinating listen which reminds me of a lot of "Darkness On The Edge of Town" insomuch as it's sparse and lonely feeling along with the longer set pieces from early in his career like "Jungleland" or "Incident on 57th Street." Yes, the politics are still there but it's not as overt or burdensome as recent albums. Bruce really didn't bring anything new to this party but the way Ron Aniello recorded, produced and mixed these songs is what makes this record unique. It has the feel of classic Bruce within a modern setting.
What I do find fascinating is that there are virtually no E Street Band members to be heard on the album which means when they play it live it'll take on a whole new dimension. I don't see how these songs could be played along side classic Bruce fare as they are so understated. Should he perform this whole album as the first set in his upcoming tour then present the second and encore sets as typical, balls-to-the-wall, Springsteen I'd go. Mea culpa.

It's a solo album.Notd an E Streey band album. Much closer to the Seeger Sessions sound, then classic oler Springsteen style. Doubt if he'll do teh entire album live. Probably not more than a couple songs. But he'll have a full horn section with him to fill out the sound.
