well, with gazza on an apparent trip to seek truth, justice and the stonesian way...we do have an opening....up for grabs...

...and I would've nominated Rolling Hansie to the interim role, but I hear/read he's a bit of a stalker!

the whitehouse has uploaded this behind the scenes vid, which i havent had
a chance to watch yet...

as announced, mick tweeted very short answers to a bunch of questions during
the broadcast. no questions about the stones made it through and as for the one
question that mentioned superheavy, the superheavy part of the question was
ignored. he singled out buddy and the drummer Narada Michael Walden for praise,
and said him and Jeff had had very little time to rehearse "commit a crime",
a song that neither one of them had played before. all the tweets are here:

Louisiana Red dies at 79; Alabama-born slide guitarist found success in Germany

Red died Saturday at a hospital in Germany, just a few nights after the
president and his wife had hosted B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Jeff Beck, Mick Jagger
and others at the White House for a celebration of the blues.

He would return to the United States periodically for tours, and in 2009, one of
the first things he did after again setting foot on his home turf was to send a
copy of his latest album to the country's first African American president, Barack Obama.


He landed a deal with Chicago's influential Chess Records after playing a song
over the phone for label co-owner Phil Chess, who sent him a bus ticket for
Chicago. The man who picked Red up at the station to drive him to meet Chess was
Muddy Waters, who was to become one of the label's biggest stars.

Waters and some of his band mates, including harmonica player Little Walter and
guitarist Jimmy Rogers, played on some of Red's recordings, and he appeared on
records by other blues artists including Waters and John Lee Hooker.

"He's kind of one of the originators," Kim Wilson, singer and harmonica player
for the Fabulous Thunderbirds, said Monday. "His career took off in the '60s,
and he had a little bit more of a modern sound than Muddy and the guys from the
'50s. He was a real pivotal guy for people like me, and he was a very, very
good songwriter.

"He's a blues guy, a real blues guy — not one of these guys who call themselves
blues people. That's an important distinction," Wilson said. "When guys like
that leave the planet, quality control goes out the window."

Watching him point, squirm, shimmy, and pose seems a little bit awkward for an old man like him.
Sure, he can still do it (somewhat), but it all looks forced and unnatural.

Well,everybody here knows how greatly I admire Jagger ( "awe "should work too. ) but I must say I don't totally disagree .

I agree. The first song was too much, over the top, but the rest, specially Commit a Crime, was great. I don´t know about Miss You, I don´t dare to watch it.

I was very impressed with that young cat (I'm trying to bring that word back into vogue, bear with me please), especially his tone. How does he do that? One can imagine Jack White just writhing with envy.

I enjoyed the whole show last night. Like at least one other person said, never seen Jagger so out of breath. He could sing, but his speaking was an effort - isn't that odd? The only mildly negative thing I'll say is yeah, he could have dialed it down a bit - his gestures & such came off as exaggerated. But it's perfectly understandable, he was doing his arena act in a small room.

It was nice to see a young black blues guitarist play with some funk (Gary Clark). They all seemed to be a little peeved, including Buddy Guy, at how fantastic and fluid Jeff Beck was. Beck almost seemed to be holding back from overpowering the rest of them.

Mick seems out of shape on stage. Yes, he is older, a bit more decrepit. I'm sure he'll get better with some concerts under his belt. Ronnie, Charlie, and Bill (if he decides to join) are in much better stage shape than Mick or Keith. Miss You wasn't bad. It looked like Mick was having trouble with his own lyrics. Above it all you could see that he was in control and a genuine bluesman. Maybe he didn't pick cotton in Mississippi, but he sure learned the musical blues form. It's really sad that Brian Jones flew apart. It was his love and knowledge of the blues that informed the early Stones.
