let's all just pitch a little in and get a brand new band...

Certainly they will mark the 50th anniversary this summer, but is it possible that we won't see any actual live performances until (at the earliest) January of 2013? Mick has hinted that Charlie's joining the band (in January of 1963) holds at least some significance to him. Also, Bill Wyman didn't join the band until December of 1962.

Agreed. If the tour is delayed any longer, it may be time to assemble the sons and daughters of the Rolling Stones to take their place. Isn't Brian Jones' son a musician? He could play sitar and dulcimer! It would be great! And just think, the Stones' kids would help secure the band's rightful place as the best group ever!

Not this bollocks again. They were the Stones before Bill or Charlie joined. And they will tour in 2012.

Well, that's nice to know. Just curious, is there a minimum amount of concerts required to constitute a tour? I mean, at what point do we call it a tour?

to attract a widespread audience for a Tour you must reach thousands and more thousands of people and not just a few Fan Club members which die to see them again. For the moment there is no big hype about the Rolling Stones on their 50th Anniverairy except in little news on music tabloids.
Only if the media does take up the matter in a very big way, which I doubt because of the Olympics, there might be a chance for the Stones to sell tickets at a big scale. Even then people will not spend money on high overprized tickets. And at last we have the healthrisk of all members of the band not only the 4, but also the musicians who accompagnied the Stones since a long time do not get younger.

Oh, really.
Everyone loves a smartarse.
They changed their plans (not for the first time) for reasons they know and you and I dont.
If you think that the band seriously believe they started in January 1963, then youre in cloud cuckoo land.
Nope, just saw March 21, sorry about that.Quote

They've never struck me as being particularly fussed about anniversaries anyway. In 2002/3 they decided to tour and the theme Forty Licks came afterwards (as opposed to the 40th anniversary coming first). It was a "hook" upon which to hang the hat of a tour and new compilation album. If they play some concerts (and I think they will next year) then they will be billed as 50th birthday concerts. I don't think it will be a massive tour but I can easily see several days in NYC, London etc. The pedants among us may call it a 51st Anniversary...do I care? No.
Do you want some kind of medal or something? Geez. Can you toot your own horn some more please?Quote

I have said repeatedly that July 12, 2012 is the official 50th birthday of the Rolling Stones. It is no coincidence that the new book is being released on that date. As I have stated before the 50th anniversary year begins on July 12, 2012 and runs through July 11, 2013. There will be lots of "lovely things" during this year long celebration. Recently I sensed that there may not be any actual touring this year and that Mick might be leaning more towards 2013 in that regard. Apparently, "my hunch" was correct. Of course they could surprise us with something earlier, and that would be just fine and dandy. Whatever they were going to do in 2012 was going to spill over into 2013 anyway. The documentary is being released in September. I suspect we will get a new album sometime around Christmas or early in the New Year. Hopefully we will begin to see some live performances early in the New Year. If they come later, then so be it. The good news is that the next 16 months around here is going to be filled with anticipation. I am looking forward to it. As Stones fans it can't get any better.

Like Rodney Dangerfield, just looking for a little respect. Probably won't get any until the day the Beatles Family comes together all on one stage. Maybe that day I get a big Viking horn and blow into it?

For a couple weeks you did a fairly good job of appearing to be an almost sane version of thewatchman. It couldn't last, of course.
