Are you freezing? - 25 C here in the north of Sweden today. Yesterday it was - 30 C and - 43 C not so far away from here (coldest in Sweden this winter). Up til now it has been a very mild winter though. How is it where you live?

Up till a week from now it has been a mild winter in Germany, but this morning we have had -15 degrees, it will remain like this for about a week (I hope not longer).

this is why Sweden is the most richest country in the world (inhabitants),
imagine lazy & non reliable people in a polar country like this?
if u have not finished buiding your house before Winter: you die...
if you lie by -25 °C: you tell somebody you'll meet him & then you do not come
you can cause your friend's death waiting for you in the coldness

this is a philosophic question but: colder it is & more reliable & serious you have to be; if you lose some time in blablabla...: you die...

this is why there's no cold country in the Thirld World

this is my explanation but some might not agree

- 20 C but it's alright. Though we have a presidential election today in Finland so it might influence to people's voting activity.

WRAP UP well for a cold week ahead. That is the warning from Météo France as it warns of intense cold which is expected to beat previous records, with temperatures rarely climbing above zero.

Coming after one of the warmest and driest years on record, it is a severe wake-up call with minimum temperatures between -1C and -7C expected in the south-west, and -8C in the north. The only place with daytime temperatures above 0C will be the Mediterranean coast with 6C or 8C.

A strong north-east wind will make things even colder. With the freeze expected to last a week, the lowest temperatures are expected towards the end of this week.

The ground will stay frozen for some time afterwards bringing an increased risk of black ice on the roads.

Rhône-Alpes region will be particularly badly affected - with temperatures dropping to -10C in the lowlands, -15C higher up and -20C at the ski stations - and the prefect has already requisitioned a sports hall in Lyon for use as emergency accommodation.

Snow storms which have swept across France over the past two days have caused the death of one driver in Isère whose car skidded into a truck. In Rhône, at Solaize, a school bus with 50 children on board crashed on ice, injuring four of the youngsters.

February is traditionally the coldest month of the year but this cold snap is exceptional. The last really cold period was in 1997.

I'd guess Gilles is French, Doxa. Gilles is not a common name in Sweden. Gilles: You have understood the situation perfectly! I don't think it's a coincidence that our king is of French heritage (Bernadotte)! winking smiley

Gilles I would kind of agree with you. However, I have a friend from Napoli that is about as far away from lazy as possible. Although he has been late a couple of times, ha-ha. It's definately cold in Germany, not like Sweden but we have -9.5 right now where I am. Good thing I didn't listen to the people that wanted to put their summer tires back on their cars.

As Sweden is an oblong country the temperatures, of course, varies from south to north (and east to west...). In the south of Sweden (where most people live) the temperatures today are between -5 to -10 degrees Celsius.

From what I heard they're the ones dying. Sad but I guess they drink until they don't feel it, and then don't wake up. I hope they get a better life next time around if there's reincarnation.

Hey !

When the temperatures reach a lower point here in France, there are emergency centers that opened for the homeless people who are on the streets. Volunters from the Red Coss try to persuade them to get there at night time, when the tempertaures are the lowest.
The bad thing is that many homeless people don't want to go ,because of the fights between drunks, because those places don't allow dogs etc.
So that's very bad and there were already death .

I thought many time that since I have a house, I could myself give some spare space downstairs ,but never dared to do it ,for safety purposes .

A mild winter here, expecting 5 degrees tomorrow. Have only had to shovel snow once and it was minimal. Best of luck to europeans - stay warm.

When it gets cold...
15°C: Spanish wear caps, gloves and winter coats, Finns are sunbathing.
10°C: French desperately try to get their central heating on. Finns plant flowers.
5°C: Italian cars won't start. Finns drive with convertibles.
0°C: Pure water freezes. Water in river Vantaa thickens a bit.
-5°C: First people are found frozen in California. Finnish midsummer festival ends.
-10°C: Scottish turn the heat on in their houses. Finns start to use long-sleeve shirts.
-20°C: Swedes stay indoors. Finns are having the last barbeque before winter.
-30°C: Half of the Greek people have frozen to death. Finns start to dry their laundry indoors.
-50°C: Polar bears evacuate North Pole. Finnish army starts it's winter training.
-70°C: Siberian people are moving to Moscow. Finns are furious since the Koskenkorva booze can't be stored outdoors anymore.
-273°C: Absolute Zero. Finns admit that it is quite cold outside.
-300°C: Hell freezes over. Finland wins the football World Cup

Good gifts to the people on the streets might be those chemical hand warmer packets. We got some from a promoter in Ann Arbor Michigan one time and we ended up giving them to some folks outside that winter day who looked like they needed it.

Maybe Bono will buy a couple truckloads and distribute them....now that he can afford it.

MRambler thanks for that smile. SwayStones I'd say trust your instinct along with your big heart when considering temporary tenants. peace
