It's an interesting dynamic. Lennon was one of the few people that Mick was dwarfed by in his presence. I believe Mick said once that it was like being in the company of the most famous man in the world. I loved Lennon, recognized how f'd up he was, and didn't let him negate my love of the Rolling Stones in any way. Yes, the Stones need each other. They create something bigger than their individual parts when they fuse. Big deal. It's not a sin.

Wasn't there some speculation as well, that 'A Bigger Bang' came as a 'response' to 'How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb'.
Makes no sense, especially when the 'biggest bang' is just a theory that never seems to hold up and has nothing to do with atomic bombs. That and that scientists are stuck in this belief that everything has a beginning and an end.
don't shoot the messenger

Fascinating stuff & a great find. This board has never really discussed the issue.

I wasn't! It was merely a comment! If I was shooting the messenger you'd know it.

Political yes. Intellectual? I really wonder if he even knew who Herbert Marcuse was for example.Quote

My impression of him is that he was ... the only true intellectual or political Beatle or Stone.

Lennon's behavior is that of a bitter jealous guy. Perhaps he knew that
beneath Beatlemania, peel away all that hype....and he really wished he could
have been a Rolling Stone, really loved the Stones music but his huge ego turned
him towards jealousy and not honesty.

Keith in the early '70s responds to Lennons statement that the Stones largely imitated the Beatles:

To me he was more of a "pub thinker" like "ya know what pal? War is an ugly thing, period! Wars shouldn't exist! Want another ale, pally? It's on me!"
And he put that to music.
Jagger and co. were more cynical or they had more taste.

Lennon was the biggest hypocrite of all times.
