(Mick Jagger / Keith Richards)

October 10, 1977 - March 2, 1978, Le Fork Studios & La Fourchette, Pocé sur Cisse,
France, August 2011 and Berkeley Street Studios, Los Angeles, California, US, August 2011

Charlie Watts - drums
Bill Wyman - marimbas
Ron Wood - acoustic guitar
Don Was - bass
Sugar Blue - harmonica
Matt Clifford - percussion

Well, I haven't seen your face for years, I thought you had just disappeared
And don't you worry what are friends for
You can call me up most anytime, I never go to bed ‘til five
Don't be a stranger, just knock on my door

I heard you're in the south of Spain and never coming back again
Don't be a stranger, a stranger no more
Don't be a stranger, just knock on my door

Well, the key is hanging on the chain, are you still drinking the same champagne
While I been waiting on the fifteenth floor
Have a glass while I light the fire, you still got those hungry eyes
Don't be a stranger, just knock on my door

You can tell me about your escapades, the story of your lost decade
Don't be a stranger, a stranger no more
Don't be a stranger, just knock on my door

Hey baby
Do you still drive the young men wild, you were all so very versatile
I need your loving like never before
Well, you walk with the same old slouch, I still got the same old couch
You see the painting that you always adored
And I love you sitting in my chair, come closer let me smell your hair
Don't be a stranger, a stranger no more
Don't be a stranger, just knock on my door

Don't be a stranger, don't be a stranger, don't be a stranger…

Produced by The Glimmer Twins, Chris Kimsey & Don Was

First released on: The Rolling Stones - “Some Girls” 2CD
(Universal Music 278 924-3) UK, November 18, 2011

This is a track I was hoping would grow on me, but it hasn't really. It sounds forced, strained, a bit like Sweethearts Together. Certainly the Stones are to be commended for trying all kinds of music, but experiments don't always work, do they?

Nice to hear it. I think i have heard it on a bootleg only instrumental. I like it, but sweethearts is much better IMHO

I like it. The song could use a bridge, though.

A breath of fresh air on the album.

Boring.

The only song on the Some Girls Deluxe that I dont care for...

I like the song

"Well, you walk with the same old Swatch, I still got the same old couch
You see the painting that you always adored
And I love you sitting in my chair, come closer let me smell your hair"

Jagger's lyrics are full of small simple details that make up life. And it's so sensual - come closer let me smell your hair - One can instantly imagine this situation, it's like a scene from the movie

Lucky In Love-original- is slightly better but this reworked version is mighty fine too!

the music is charming - i'd be very glad to have an instrumental version,
because the number definitely has a place in the flow of the bonus disk

Always loved the bootleg version, one of my all time favourite out-takes.

The re-working took a few listens but now I think its great.

I've never heard this original bootlegged "Lucky In Love". Can't seem to find it on Youtube. The only song with that title that I'm familar with is the Jagger solo effort, but I know that's a totally different song altogether.

Having said that, I enjoy "Don't Be A Stranger" which is, to my ears, a brand new track.

I like it, but the new vocal is jarring. Moreso than the other new vocals on the disk.

Isn't it a Jagger/Richards/Wood composition?

Anyway, it's appalling.

Fits nicely on the album...terms like 'appalling' and 'jarring' are vudicus, I mean mathijus, I mean, ludicrous.

Check out for Do You Get Enough, which is another of this track's
supposed working titles.

Oh it's a good song, but the vocals are certainly more noticable on this one compared to the rest of the new tracks.

Thank you for the tip, NeddieFlanders. I'm checking it out on YouTube as I write this!

Here it is: I can't really hear the resemblance to Mick's Lucky In Love apart from the title....

Anyway, I like Don't Be A Stranger very much - another of those much-maligned tracks that get jumped on because they're supposedly Not Stonesy Enough. Like proudmary, I enjoy the lyrics - although I'm pretty sure that the line is "you walk with the same old slouch" (stylish as a Swatch would be, that's not what my ears hear).

Thank you Green Lady for posting this link. I agree with you, I find it to be a catchy tune (both the old and new versions of the song), And I hear the word "slouch" in the lyrics as well!

I do prefer this song to Jagger's solo "Lucky In Love" track (not that there's any connection between the two, so far as I can see).

technically, you could also walk with a swatch, strapped to your wrist. doesn't rhyme as well admittedly.

I agree. It's kinda bad in a Sweethearts Together way. It's the one track of the 12 I didn't bother putting into my mp3 player. Pass...

I put on the bonus disc the other night in the background to see what tracks stood out and this was one of them. I'm still trying to hear Bill's marimbas.

I HATE this song. Embarrassing as a Stones fan to hear a Jimmy Buffett-esque song, especially as an outtake from such a kickass album. Did Don Was not have the balls to tell Jagger how much this track sucks, or did he actually dig it??

Seriously, I can't believe anyone on this board would actually like this track. Just goes to show how varying musical tastes are. I thought surely everyone on here would be able to universally say that this track and Indian Girl are horrible pieces of junk!

I, for one, love Indian Girl...find its deep fatalism intriguing and darkly romantic.

As for "Don't Be A Stranger", I love its Caribbean lilt and it is an eclectic choice on the album, though it does sound jolting in its present sequence juxtaposed to the other more bluesy and countryfied tracks on the Some Girls extra-CD. The only contention I have is that Jagger -- as I have often commented of his later work -- finds the need to overact and over-enunciate and thus the track loses some of the easy charm that the original bootleg had.

I really can't believe it, but this is one of my favorites on the new release. I totally understand why others hate it and I'm kinda surprised that I don't feel the same. But for some reason I totally dig it. Of all the new songs it's got the most plays on my iPod.
