Well, then this is the perfect place then isnt it?.... because it appears that there is not a lot of love for the Stones on this board, based on what people post anyway.

Aw c'mon Max you know that only something you love can make you angry. Let em vent. Its not just the Stones that bring people anyway here it's something even more interesting and diverse and loveable...Stones fans!

I'm sure EVH learned plenty of Stones covers when he was playing for high school parties around LA. I'd love to have him sit in for a coupla tunes with our boys, wake Ronnie up a bit and ice the Stones cake on some Mick Taylor era stuff. He is amazingly good at playing straight ahead rock and roll.

He was at one of the the Stones concerts in 1989 in LA that I was at. Sitting a row behind me on Keiths side with his sweet ex-wife Valerie. He was there for Living Colour's set then left for all of Gun's and Roses and came back sometime during the Stones set. He is a fan too! Whoo Hoo! peace

Cool story about seeing EVH at the show... even cooler he split for GnR canme back for the Stones... even cooler that cutie pie Valerie was there... she is has always been a cutie.

anyway.....
I am still grumping about this non Michael Anthony thing... but the news songs sound..... well I am not going to say it.... fkrs... I might even go see em if tickets werre not $170billiontrillin dollars.... man concerts prices are out of control.

that reminds me....
You know one of the best things about the Hampton show? SEVENTEEN DOLLAR TICKETS!!! Remember how we thought $17.00 was a high price back then? Only $17 dollars, heck, that is the ticket bastard fee these days (or should I say that is 1/2 the ticketbastard fee)

PS

I guess it is time to clean out some closets of my VH stuff, esp if I supposedly dont like em anymore...... so annnnnyyyyywaaaaayyy.... I was looking on ebay to check prices and found this....

This is the first time I ever saw VH

and my oh my isnt the own proud of his shirt... he want $175.00 for it [www.ebay.com]

Then again that is a bargain compared to the 3,000-$20,000 he wants for these [www.ebay.com]
20 grand ofr a freekin shirt??? WHAT RECESSION? LOL

I got the new CD and damn it, they put out a great release, the single is by far the weakest track....it is very heavy, even for Van Halen.

lol! Well if we could still make some cash from record sales and songwriting the damn ticket prices wouldn't have to be so high. Maybe when all this downloading site policing is done, the income stream from mechanical royalties will open up again and the the ticket prices will drop accordingly, but I doubt it. Hardly ANY incentive for bands like Steely Dan to exist these days, even they are having to tour to make a couple bucks. ha.

It's a strange time in the music business and one thing for certain, it will never be the same as it was in the good ole days. peace.

Thats crazy Max! You could make a cooler shirt than that for far less money, who cares if it's not the original, you're gonna wear it , not screw it, right? Chris Fritz...that brings back the memories, he was quite the midwest promoter in his day wasn't he? I heard he got beaten down by the big guys in later years, his story would be a good one for a book. I remember meeting him once around 1980, nice fellow but a bit cocky and headstrong.

I met with him because I promoted a show in Columbia MO where Head East and Eddie Money played. We were just teenagers but made about $25,000 profit on the show and thought the world was going to be easy after that.....ha ha lessons learned the hard way. We payed $7,000 for the bands as I recall, had to come up with $3,500 up front to get them to commit to the venue. It was a different time. Mr. Fritz was good to us that week. Thanks for the memories Max, you rock! peace

Wow!!! You turned a nice deal, why didnt you stay with concert promotions?

I never had a problem with Chris Fritz, I heard a lot of stories about him, but as far I was concerned he was the bearer of lots of good news. Back in the day they would say "AND CHRIS FRITZ WILL BE HERE AT 4:00 WITH A CONCERT ANNOUCNEMENT"....and I would say YIPPEE!!... Then I got there early to grab my tickets... and later it became waiting all night many many times.... whatever it took to sit in the front 5 rows, and I sat up there most of the times, and I never had an inside track, no one ever comped me, and I saw everybody up close.

I am alergic to upper deck, and even lower level tends to make me sick. If I aint up front where they can see me smiling, it aint worth going.... which is why I am so bummed about tickets prices these days, the jig is up... up close costs $300+ ... oh well... at least I got it while the getting was good... so I am happy.

btw- Good ole Chris Fritz is still around, last summer he put on a festival at the Kansas speedway called Kanrocksas (rock in the middle of Kansas)(worst name ever? maybe)... [kanrocksas.com] I didnt go, the headliners were not my cup of tea (emeinenen and Muse)... anyway... I hope he made enough to do another show... it is good for the area.

PS
LOL.. if you are from the area, do you remember that debacle in Sedalia Fritz put on back in 1974, The Ozark Music Festival? [kcrockhistory.com]

"High temperatures led to lots of nudity and semi-nudity among festival-goers. That probably freaked out the good citizens of Sedalia almost as much as reports of rampant drug sales and use in and around the fair grounds, even as outnumbered police and highway patrolmen sat on their hands outside the gates. The kids drank from people’s garden hoses and peed on their lawns; they stripped corn and pigs from farmer’s fields; they bum-rushed and broke windows at a grocery that had been limiting the number of entrants.

Things got out of hand rather quickly at OMF, given the number of people who showed up. But the actual attendance figure is impossible to know (estimates generally cite 100,000 to 150,000 or more over the three days) because, as KC-based promoter Chris Fritz noted, the perimeter fences were breached even before the doors officially opened on Friday morning of the festival weekend."

The legend goes..... that to this very day Chris Fritz is banned from entering Sedalia city limits. They tried to sue Fritz... and they changed some state laws reagrding gatherings of peoples based on the OMF.

There are a lot of websites dedicated to that story.... that is just one.

Thanks Max! I wasn't around for that Sedalia thing but knowing the folks of mid-Missouri I am imagining that it was quite a deal for them. 100 degree and humid just doesn't cut it for me these days...hell we forget how to sweat out here on the California coast. lol

I'm like you, it's the first ten rows or nothing for this spoiled kid. That's where the show is and that's where I can steal some licks. I'm convinced, like you, that that's not likely to change soon by my standards.

Thank you for the link to the history of that festival, especially because it has a photo of Mr. Fritz, sweet! That's a good fellow there and some fine mid-western memories. He's gotten a bit gray since I last saw him, I really appreciate the post dude. peace

Heard the new Van Halen album on the weekend and must say it was a surprise; was expecting a middling effort, given the lenght of time they'd been saway (last studio album was 1998!) - and the single "Tattoo" didn't promise much.

The album rocks! Some seriously good tracks on there; I know, a lot of older demos/riffs were resurrected and used, but if so they chose some damn good 'uns. A mighty fine album and exceeded all expectations I had for it

Don't pass this up folks, it's the real deal. This is what rock and roll needs right now, a good old fashioned kick in the ass...If you don't have this new album, that's why you need it!

I get a father's love for his son and all, but M. Anthony was so big to the band's sound and vibe, harmony vox being a huge part, but not the only part. Something about a lil' more non-VH bloodline gave the band some contrast.

I broke down last evening and bought tickets for VH tonight.
Am I an idiot?
The last time I saw them, 30 years ago, they really pissed me off.
I'll let you know how it goes...

LOVED your descriptions of the scalper... "hard-working independent scumbags"... "overweight greasy-haired wife-beater wearing salesman" I'm gonna be laughing at those for a long time!

Kudos!

Might try to take your videocamera, looks like they were letting them in wholesale in Louisville, based on how many youtube posts there are. Have fun tonight. I swear, I still am too pissed over screwing Michael Anthony out of BIG MONEY from this tour, so I am not going, and I mean it, I think.

Thanks Mr DJA and Max'sKC for reading.

Yeah, I swore I wasn't going either...

We'll see soon enough!
They BETTER NOT let me down again.

BTW, My seats look fantastic! Lower level closer than middle, third row off the floor. Strange business, ticketing is!

From the looks of the set list it should be fun, and eddie seems on fire.
I have issues with Wolfie's singing, but to be fair Im am not giving him a chance, that fatfk taking Michael Anthonys's job cuz his daddy.... oh I should stop.

Have fun tonight.... and remember.... pound down 5-6 beers berfore/during... it is VH after all.

OK,

Here's my summary of the Detroit show:

Eddie looks, and sounds, surprisingly good...
Wolfie plays a mean bass, probably better suited for a young Metal band...
Alex never takes off his sunglasses...
DLR is a still a raving lunatic but keeps the whole thing together, despite looking like "Vince" from the Sham-Wow infomercials.

5 new songs, for better or for worse.
At $165, not a great value, but I'm glad I went!
