Ok, I am willing to give this another try. There is supposed to be good Rap and Hip-Hop out there and I have ignored it for long enough. To those of you open-minded experts out there, can you recommend me some starting points? Thanks!

Sorry. there is NONE

Right wing nut says there's NONE (btw it's funny to notice ppl who don' like rap... well probably don't like black people either) eye rolling smiley

I say start with the grandfathers of the genre : Public Enemy! Their collage technique remains, even today, absolutely mind-boggling.

Well I don't know about that - though how many here are in interracial relationships or socialise with other ethnicities, I wouldn't like to guess. Again, it's a cultural thing. Many here do like the blues, soul and reggee music, though. It isn't all Dre and Snoop Dog.

Totally right. I have a zillion blues albums, seen many many times (inclduing Muddy- Beacon Theatre in 1980 among other times; Pinetop; Keb Mo, etc). Rap to me is empty/nothing - whch makes me a racist.

Rap to you is all about guns and shooting each other and gangs. If only you'd open your ears a bit.

If you're talking about a certain 'N' word, then it's not uttered in a racist context, as such. Listen to hip-hop and you'll hear that the expression is used in both a derogatory and affectionate way.
