Dälek are also good IMO, very dark and electronic... They record for Mike Patton's label.

It does Don't get me wrong, it's not a genre that I listen to all the time, but every now and then I hear a track that makes me think... WOW! Musical taste is subjective and IMO, there is brilliance to be found in every type. Whether it be rock, classical, or hip-hop. Kanye West is a dope, though.

While your at it, check out a group called "Us3" (Hand on the Torch is the album I've got)... They started their songs with a jazz base and added rappers to it. I don't like much rap/hip-hop because the music/backing tracks can be so boring a lot of the time, but, at least on the above mentioned album, the music is actually pretty good.

Please, listen to this one all the way through. The lyrics are unbelievable and the breakdown at the halfway point is absolutely stunning. The girl singing is AMAZING. I have produced so much rap/hiphop in my old studio that I HATE the genre permanently. This is the ONLY artist in my collection, and I love his work. Blackalicious is the artist, and the The Craft is the album you want.

That's odd, because IMO one of the more exciting things about rap/hip hop ARE the backing tracks.

That's one of the things I love about music... Two people listening to the same thing get different impressions! I need to be turned on to what you're hearing as the stuff my kids and some friends play can bore me to sleep sometimes. Maybe it's the programmers at radio that I need to blame... The "opinion makers".

Funny thing is (how's this for hypocrisy?): Play me a one chord/riff groove by John Lee Hooker, Bo Diddley, etc, and I'll most likely groove my a$$ off. I guess I really shouldn't expect artists in a genre that I'm unfamiliar with to keep pace with the legendary artists of a genre I love. Still, it would be nice to be able to hear something in my kid's music that would make it a bit more accessible to my ears!

I have been listening to Ice Cube's first album, lately. It's packed full of great beats and social commentary.It's similar to Straight Outta Compton by N.W.A. - an LP you must check out - though it lacks some of its impact.
