Same old list every year, RS prefers old or dead guys.

Is Phil X on that list?

He should be.

Yeah these lists are 'favorite guitarist' lists ans not the 'best.' I love the Stones but Keith should not be in the top ten. You're right about the age and grave thing too.

Ratinglists doesn't mean anything to begin with - but they means even less when not knowing what they criterias they used for the rating. That being said; it's not a bad list....and the 2 first ones; Hendrix followed by Clapton; is what I would have voted to; if somebody put a gun to my head.

top 5 guitarists I'd like to see:

kind of a TDWR list (talent deserving wider recognition)

Kenny Vaughn

Bill Kirchen

Will Kimbrough

Charlie Sexton

Dave Alvin

Clapton is overrated.

Rory Gallagher, Ritchie Blackmore & Peter Green (ex-Fleetwood Mac) are miles superior.

Bill Kirchen is a cool pick. Saw him (and band) in a small club a couple of year ago. Fantastic! His "Have Guitar, Will Travel" is a good disc.

Dave Alvin

What is it? Rock guitarists? Then what is B.B. King doing there? Is it bluesy rock? Then why is Eddie Van Halen on the list?

lists are stupid. they do nothing but influence the ignorant. people don't ask why anymore. all they do is see a list and let it dictate for them how the world is.

Re: OT: 100 Greatest Guitarists - Special Issue RS Dec 11

The whole idea of 'listing' the 'greatest' guitar players at all, is, well, insipid. There's a million 'greatest' guitar players. RS magazine still has credibility? I'm shocked they haven't got Bieber in the Top 10. Anyways it goes to 11.

That is quite worthy a list, however Keith, John Lennon make the list for riffs and originality alone. I wouldn't say that their in song lead solos put them there.

That depends on the criteria for making the list. If its natural ability and lead guitar solos and such, they fall down on the list.

The list is a fine one, as far as classic rock goes. But I'd rather listen to my puke dry than hear Eddie Van Halen play guitar.

Stevie Ray should be there, and two strictly personal choices would have been Johnny Winter and Johnny Ramone.

Eddie Van halen??????Please.

And Clapton is so overrated. As is Hendrix

Hendrix could take his brain out, lay it on the table and still play the guitar with his teeth or behind his back. Clapton should be teaching blues 101 at Rocko's Music School...he could use his albums from the last few years as textbooks

Also, they don't call Will Kimbrough "The Alien" for nothin' and if ya aint seen(or more importantly heard) Dave Alvin, well...........
