"The Stones’ Some Girls Super Deluxe Box Set is a Disappointment"
C'mon you know these high-end versions are always a rip-off. They target the uber-fan who want these things. Uber-fans who'll never question the buck-for-value appeal of these monstrosities... I mean "collector's items".
Totally agree with you Gazza!Quote

I'm not so sure.
The Springsteen boxed set that came out last year, 'The Promise' (also focussing on a classic album from 1978) contained the following :
Original album remastered
Two more discs of outtakes (22 songs)
Plus :
Three DVD/blu ray discs containing
- a full three hour pro-shot concert which had never circulated in any form
- a 90 minute documentary on the making of the album
- a 2009 performance of the entire 'Darkness' album
- twelve 'vault' performances, consisting of 1976 rehearsals and 1978 concert footage.
About 6 and a half hours worth of video footage, and almost three hours of audio. Plus a reasonably sized book
...retailing at much the same price as the 'Some Girls' deluxe. Pricey enough - yes, but there was enough there to keep you busy for a few evenings instead of something you can listen to and watch in a couple of hours.
They really should have included the Fort Worth show as part of the CD/DVD package instead of forcing you to buy it separately. Likewise with the Exile/Stones in Exile/L&G releases.
Obviously, its down to the consumer. No one's forcing us to buy it and maybe its the revenue that comes from these overpriced super deluxe versions that makes the project financially worthwhile.
I was quite happy with the 2-CD package. And the Fort Worth bluray is really nice too.
Paying all that extra for a facsimile of a rare 7' single, a book and a few cards just didnt appeal to me at all.

There's no need to be a "show off" to decide that the super deluxe is the better investment IMO.

11.95£ for the some girls deluxe 2cd is really a good price. I bought it. About the super deluxe version, bullshit, a dvd, seems to be a short dvd. Beast of burden is just a replica. Some pictures. And the price, 89£ on Amazon.co.uk. This is 8 times the prices of the 2cd. Easy to choose. I will burn a dvd when I'll find it on demonoid. And don't howl, a lot of guys on this board will do the same. That's all.

That's very true; it's completely subjective how much one enjoy items like these.
A remark like others being a show-off because they like these items is pointless.

The SuperDeluxe box comes with the incredibly rare Beast of Burden 45 Picture Sleeve, the original being worth a couple of thousand dollars.
THAT, is what people are buying.

A+1... nice read, especially the first part.
They should have just included the Texas DVD as part of the deluxe SG package.

What about the extended version of When the Whip Comes Down? There is a pulverizing 6:14 extended version and the apocalyptic (original?) 10 minute version which is arguably the greatest pure garage-rock track of the 1970’s. You know...the one with the 2 extra verses:
Mr. Rockafeller he won’t give me no load
...and Mr. Brown He don’t want me back home,
Well I love my momma and she loves her son
But it’s so goddamn hard to go back where I started from...
(repeating and altering an earlier stanza)
Mamma and Papa told me I was just crazy to stay
I was just lost in New York I was just lost in L.A.
But I got some money now so I took the plane
Wherever I go they all treat me the same...

well..the ORIGINAL was rare but the one in the Super Deluxe box...is equivalent to a Xerox/Facsimile....so I hope
people aren't purchasing it for THAT.
But I agree that (re: re-issues, concert dvds & upcoming downloads) there is something to be thankful for...
because they could have continued to sit on that stuff and never release it.

Well obviously the original is rare...that IS why they've included the facsimile.
I've seen even acknowledged facisimile copies of this PS sell for over $200 on EBAY...that and SFM.
So you bet people are purchasing for that...they sure as hell aren't buying it for the CD's, they can get that for 9.99 GBP's on Amazon UK.

This reissue thing sucks. Just give us the unreleased stuff ala carte. The marketing of this stuff stinks.

If that is true..i stand corrected. i wasn't attacking you..your response seemed a little defensive.
Still not sure why anyone would pay big bucks for a replica. To me that's like paying big bucks for a CD-R.

Don't we have actual bootlegs of this stuff though? We can seriously expect them to release 50 songs that are rerecorded, remastered, remixed, blah...blah...blah.
For those lamenting about not having all those cuts as official releases, we have them as bootlegs already.
We have no idea what's in the vaults. I doubt there's many "finished tracks" there; but Richards once said "you've only seen the tip of the iceberg"....not that it seems all that believable
ANyway...quite a lot of forgettable "retakes" and such; me thinks
Yet - when it comes to live material....there's gotta be an incredible amount of vaulted stuff

Turd unless a Locke of each of the Stones hairs, a pint of blood and some finger nail clippings came in the box sounds like you wouldn't be happy....It's Only Rock and Roll....appreciate what you have not what's missing. I'm sure they put together what they the artists thought were the best songs!

Talk about low expectations. I would have loved to hear at least one of those "jazz" versions of Miss You. Keith and Charlie would have been for that, but Jagger "didn't like the way his voice sounded" or whatever.
