I think a real key here is getting Charlie's wheels in motion. He seemed very content with his jazz band and life, and to see him going into the studio might be the most positive sign. Mick will follow the bacon no matter what so no real issue there...

C'mon, Gazza, be serious who counts Tumbling Dice, Loving Cup, Just Wanna See His Face, Let It Loose, All Down the Line, Shine a Light, and Soul Survivor as EXILE songs? Next you'll be telling us there were female background singers on Salt of the Earth.

All right, you've won this round. But the female singers on Plundered still don't sound quite of the period. And really, that's my only petty complaint about a great track. It might have been a little too reminiscent of Tumbling Dice to have made the original Exile, but very welcome now.

On the surface it does sound odd but I don't think it's a bigger problem than it sounds. Keith wants to jam...period. That means, strapping on a guitar, riffing on some blues stuff, playing some old stuff, just getting together and getting their fingers warm again. Mick is the singer of the group and although yes, he plays guitar, jamming isn't exactly Mick yearns for. Mick is not one to partake in something as relaxed as this without trying to make something productive out of it like trying to write a new song or come up with new material. Keith says that it's not about writing new songs but more about just playing. It seems he feels guilty for letting 4 years pass without a single note being played between them which is the reason for getting together. In fact, this is probably something we'd see Keith do in the future once the band shuts down...he's feeling the itch so he wants to get together and play through an amp with Charlie.

I have done the same thing. Sometimes you just want to get together and play with your old buddies. You miss the friendships, the chemistry and mainly: the music. Nothing wrong with that.

In the end, it sounds like any other musician getting together with his friends to relax and play some old tunes like they used to. The only difference here is that these are The Rolling Stones so it's going to be news
.

Odd talk from Keith Richards. He makes a public announcement that he will jam with Charlie and Ronnie in London in this month, and "Mick's welcome." Well, if Jagger will not turn up, it will not be a Rolling Stones jam session.

I guess this is all meaningless PR bs in promoting the new product, SOME GIRLS re-issue,

- Doxa

You put my thoughts into words, Doxa.
I didn't dare to say it,though .

It seems everyone is excited about the thought of a new tour, and so do I .
Really .The last time ....

But I don't get how people forget that the Stones are a music band, but they are businessmen TOO !

So yes, what you wrote <<promoting the new product, SOME GIRLS re-issue,<<

make sence IMO.

I just take it for what seems to be reality : Keith playing with Charlie. Just great. Second : if Charlie is doing just so, it means to me that Mick will surely turn up. Funny though how "Life" has damaged everything. Third : it will happen, so so. This tour will mean a real crusade for the believers.

mixed messages...article in the Sun is suggesting that Keith already worked with Charlie and has new ideas......but it looks awfully similar to a story that Jagger had given about having worked with Charlie...sounds like something is more than up.....[www.thesun.co.uk]

Yeah, they really let themselves down by departing from the traditional Stones sound on THOSE steaming turds!

That's news to me, what is your source? Thought they'd just winged it in May at the Guillaume Tell studios in Suresnes following Keith's "we need songs, only a small problem" comment at the PC.

Part of the difference in style is that Lisa and Cindy's vocals were mixed with Mick's own falsetto backing vocals on "Plundered My Soul" so that the sound was closer to Mick's multi-tracked falsetto backing vocals on "Undercover of the Night" than the more traditional gospel choir heard on "Salt of the Earth" YCAGWYW, and the EXILE tracks.

But..I can't let that logic get in the way of a good dose of sarcasm. It takes all the fun out of it if I admit that I know what you meant.

Nov. 10 (Telegraph) -- Guitarist Keith Richards adds to
rumours that the Rolling Stones might reunite for their 50th

Keith Richards has said that rock ‘n’ roll legends the
Rolling Stones might reunite.

So they might reunite? It said it twice, it must be true.

I never knew they split up. Amazing news!

If you don't show up for your job for four years, you're not still employed. Same logic with the Stones even without an announcement of dissolution. Mick finishing up outtakes for several albums seems like a nice way for a pensioner to keep busy without working too hard. The same is true of SuperHeavy as well.

OK, to help you corral this excitment, I guess then 'Hold Back' would be best.

Maybe Jagger has asked Charlie (with whom he did "jam" during the summer and made some blues songs) to check if Keith and Ronnie are in any shape to do anything worthwhile, and then report him if any real future activity is worth time and investion... It starts to sound like it is Charlie the key mediator - and musically the only link - between the Twins nowadays..eye rolling smiley

Hmmm... it starts to sound that there is a lot in the game in those jam sessions... they might really check if they are adult-seriously in shape to do anything. In this sense, the whole thing migh have been Jagger's master plan from the beginning... he has given the order for the rest - Keith that is - to get "their chops down" if any future activity is going to happen... And now Keith, in order to save his face, makes this little "Mick's welcome" mark, perhaps already knowing that he won't be there. He don't need to...eye rolling smiley

Speculation...

I fully agree with this comment. So I quote it. (btw, I think Bill might play some kind of role...)

do you reallythink they still "jam in the studio"?

To me it's more like : a recording session is set. Keith comes late with empty hands, Mick comes in with 40 finished demos. Keith rejects half of these.
They work on the rest and they finalize 14 to 15 cuts.
