Well the regular season is here, my team the Buffalo Sabres are in Helsinki, Finland tomorrow to take on the Anaheim Ducks. Then its off to Germany for a game with the Los Angeles Kings. The Sharks were left in California. spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Any Europeans plan on attending any of the games?

Although the LA Kings have been around the longest, there should not be teams in California. Hopefully they'll move to Canada. And the Ducks? Really? Are they even part of the NHL?

They did win a Stanley Cup. I think that counts.

Can't wait to see how the Sabres crush the Kings and former Flyer Mike Richards who had some run ins with the Sabres in the playoffs back in the spring. Too bad the Rangers didn't beat them.

Tomorrow's game is in Berlin, Germany.

The Sabres are taking it to the Kings 4 - 1 late in the third period. I can hear the "Lets Go Buffalo" chants in the arena.

There have been some matches in Sweden, I don't know which teams though. I thought they were exhibition matches, but apparently not. There is very little media coverage about them since we have our own (decimated) leagues to attend to.

As I understand it the real hockey season in North America begins in late spring 2012 with the playoffs. The 82 matches long regular season is pretty much a long preliminary round and most teams qualifies for the playoffs.

Nah. A hiccup in the history of the Stanley Cup.

The Sabres did the Sharks a favor by dumping both Anaheim and Los Angeles in Europe.

We will get aroung to our beatdown of the Sharks soon enough!

I'm sorry, but any American city where ice doesn't naturally occur has no business having a hockey team.

It just feels... sleazy, like Santa Claus sippin' sizzurp in his ride... like a G6.

Kind of like Canadians playing baseball. They have no business having a baseball team. Or basketball for that matter.

Sicilian, I will stay out of this NHL thread. I don't think a critics section is very well appreciated here. And I don't want to spoil the fun for andrewm, SCL and others.

I was in Dallas a couple of years ago and the local team was playing in the playoffs. It was 100 degrees outside and everyone was wearing those icehockey shirts. I can apprceiate team support, but this seemed way out of place. Not to mention the amount of energy and money it costs to keep an arena cold enough for the ice not to melt after 5 minutes.

What do you mean? We all poke fun here, we love our teams and the competition. BTW we allow hitting and fighting here too.

Sicilian - The Sabres have a great backup with Enroth. Watch Ruff play Miller at least 70 games

Sabres have a big game Wednesday at home against the Bruins. The big rematch since Lucic decked Ryan Miller and no response.

But I don't expect much because I don't think the Sabres can handle the Bruins physically. It has never been that way but this time it appears to be so. Add to that the Bruins have a smothering defense around the net allowing very few good scoring opportunities.
