First real car thread ..........thanks Swaystones....wil add my favs soon

And if we post the VW golf Stones version it will be not OT: smoking smiley

I remember that my father would need help to change the hardtop to the "soft" one because it was so heavy .I remember the inside of the car, beige leather .
I will try to find some more pics from this car.

It ended very sadly, though sad smiley
It must have been in 70 or 71 .It was parked outside in the street in front of my father's dental surgery office .
All of a sudden, he heard a huge noise and several seconds after, his assistant who had looked by the window came into with tears in her eyes .

A driver had crashed its car into my father's one and almost cut it in two pieces .
Needless to say nothing could be done to fix it .

My first car Opel Kadett B 1967 (got it in for free in '73 and used it for my first Stones concert in the same year)
(It's not this one but it looks similar)

Don't ask me what they are doing here............................

A recently deceased friend of my parents lived in L.A. (he was in the film business and did some of the underwater filming for TITANIC) and was racing along Pacific Coast Highway near Malibu, when a guy in another high-powered car started racing against him. So they each floored it to see who could outrace the other—I forget who "won"—and after the "race" the guy in the other car signaled my parents' friend to pull over, obviously so they could introduce themselves. And when this friend walked up to the guy he'd been racing against, it turned out to be Mick Jagger. They talked about their cars and had a nice friendly chat and then got back in their cars and went their separate ways. I don't even know what decade this was, nor do I know the cars they were driving. (I was at his memorial, and Linda Hamilton, among other stars, were there, so the Mick tale isn't one he'd have to make up. So it's almost certainly true.)

My first loves in cars were Alfettas, beginning with this 1976 1.6 one, the Stones relation being that Stones cassettes were being played loud on the car stereo all the time:-

... being followed by her sister 1982 2.0 also with constantly the Stones being played on the car stereo:-

PS: Anybody still remember the sound of these engines? People were regularly telling me the exhaust was beat-up. Nope, that was the engine's sound.

THE TEXAS MOTORPLEX - Ennis, Texas - September 23, 24 & 25, 2011

Some random pics to start with:

Someone has a sense of humor: grinning smiley

This is what 8000 horsepower looks like:

.....and this is what 8000 horsepower sounds like.
There is no audio technology that can duplicate the sound of a nitromethane-burning engine, and you would not be the envy of your neighbors if you tried, but this gives a fairly good of idea of what is is like.
BTW, this is the car that won the premier class of racing, known as Top Fuel Dragster.

This is what 16,000 horsepower on the drag strip looks like.
The Funny Cars are my favorite. They are not the fastest, but with high power and short wheelbase they make for a really wicked ride.
I shot this clip in the late afternoon so you can clearly see the header flames from the cars as they race down the track

Interesting story behind this car.
The racer that owns this car is Chris Karamesines.
Karamesines is generally believed to have run the first 200-MPH pass in the history of the quarter-mile back in 1960.
The amazing thing is that he is still racing, and will turn eighty years old in November, 2011.
Yes, he does drive the car!

Yeah, dahlin, we're in Texas!
This is a great example of style over function, since the air temperature this day was 102F/39C degrees!
Note the long-sleeve shirt tucked into those stiff jeans, and you know those cowboy boots go almost all the way up to his knees.
Well, at least he has those orange ear plugs hanging 'round his neck.
He might collapse from the heat, but he won't go deaf doing it!

A few nostalgia cars were on display as well:

This kid must have been having a ton of fun.
That looks like a Pro Stock engine on the end of that forklift.
If I'm right, that motor puts out about 1400 horsepower with carburetors!

On my way home to New Orleans, I stopped by Gibsland, Louisiana and visited the Bonnie & Clyde Ambush Museum.
Everything you might want to know about the murderous twosome can be found here.
This museum is located in the same building that once housed the cafe where Bonnie & Clyde ate their last meal.
Actually, they just bought sandwiches to take with them, which were not completely eaten when law enforcement killed them about eight miles south of here:

This is the historical marker on the side of Louisiana Highway 154 where Bonnie & Clyde were ambushed:

Souvenir hunters have vandalized the marker over the years:

As you might imagine, something like this is going to have it's share of graffiti:

THAT'S ALL FOLKS !!
