Al Capones's 1928 Cadillac is up for grabs at RM Auctions, Michigan, USA. Biding prize starts at $300 000.
" The Cadillac is quite the piece, what with its inch-thick window glass and rear window that folds down to
accommodate backseat gunmen. Although the big car once carried some 3,000 pounds of asbestos-wrapped
steel plate in its body panels, most of that armor was removed when the car was first restored some 50 years
ago."

mattleeuk, I had absolutely no idea that beside your impressive Stones memorablia you had as well a car collection.
Wow!
Which kind of cars do you have in your collection?

SwayStones, Sorry, I just spotted your question.

I am just at the beginning... my Stones collection is far more advanced. My current very small collection is:

1) A 1957 Red MGA called Ruby - A pure British classic, it holds the British record for highest percentage of production exported. In my opinion it is the best looking car per £.
2) A 1972 Fiat 500 in powder blue called Betty - A design classic, I just had to buy it. I always wanted one but it had to be in this colour
3) A 2007 Aston Martin V8 Vantage in Elusive Blue with Bitter Chocolate. The only one in the world built in this colour combination, that was enough to sell it to me :-)
4) A 2002 Diesel golf! (not what you could really call part of a car collection although it has had a Rolling Stone in it!)

Seems like you have both wealth and taste, mattleuk. Except for the common Golf. But I guess that's your everyday car then...

Thanks for your answer,Matt .
Yes,me too I raised an eyesbrow with the Golf car :-))
Does it have the Stones logo on it ?

About the Fiat 500 , I have a funny story about the Fiat 500 my mother used to drive .If you are interested ,let me some time to translate it in good English -no big deal though -

Anyway ,I am VERY impressed .Wow ! A man who is both into cars and into the Stones -like me ,even if my collection is almost inexistant :-)) -
Pity you are married ....

Swaystones, How did you get the idea I was married! I am single so get to make all my own choices :-) I would love to here your 500 story, my 500 is new to me and I am just getting used to her.

Stoneage and you ask about the golf. It is was just my first company car from when I was a young account director out on the road. I only use it to go to my storage with boxes these days.

Matt , the Fiat 500 I was talking about isn't for sure the one you're talking about.
I tried to find out what color "powder blue" is ...

The "story" about my mother's car is no big deal though.
I remember vividly how my mother woud start the car -no keys ,just a kind of "starter" beside the steering wheel .
I still remind how tiny was the back windscreen( windshield ?)

The day my parents sold that car -it was blue ,dark blue - It was a bit painful for me but I thought to myself that the car looked as a "yogourt box on wheels " if it makes sense to you .

One of the first photo I posted on that thread was one of my father's car .
A Peugeot Cabriolet .

Yesterday my father told me about his very first car -a Simca if I am not mistaken with "white tyres " how do you call the "outside" of the tyres ?
Best,
Sway

I am a Frenchie ,as Mick affectionately called them in the Old Grey Whistle Test in 1977 .

You own a Mercedes 600, Naturallust? Well consider yourself rich then. There were only 2 677 made of these between 1964-81. Most of them sold to governments and dignitaries such as Pol-Pot, Saddam Hussein, Castro and Idi Amin. However Ron Wood and jeremy Clarkson also owns one. I don't know about the two-tone painting though. Are you sure it's a MB 600 you own?

If you have grown tired of your old Volvo maybe this is something for you. A 1962 Ferrari 250 california Spyder,
SWB-version, is up for grabs at a car auction in Monterey. The bidding starts at 7,5 million dollars.
It's a beauty isn't it?

Yes somewhere on another disk I do, I'll try to find it. I realize it isn't exactly like the black one. The headlights are similar but mine are both the same size, same grille it looks like. I know it's valuable but I lucked out at a police auction in San Francisco in 1999, took a risk and it paid out. peace

"It isn't exactly like the black one". You own a Mercedes 600 (W100) but you are not really sure? Two tone? As far as I know these cars were never painted in two tone. Do you realize that there were only 2 667 made of these, very few sold to private persons. My guess is that you own a 60s Mercedes 280 SE(L) or a 300 SE(L). And thats something completely different. They were good cars too, of course. But their value is probably a 1/8 of this car depending on condition of course.
