2012 Opener Prediction--The Last Time
Posted by: Sipuncula ()

I guess it's a no-brainer, but I think it would work well. Does Keith play lead on that song? I remember them playing it in Houston in '94; Mick said something like, "I think this song is older than this building" (Astrodome opened in '65).

Doubt it.

As perfect as it would be...I can't see Mick or Keith being that sentimental to play it as an opener or even as a closer for the show.

Plus, Ronnie lays the riff down and the lead work.

probably something like this:

start me up
you got me rocking
oh no not you again
its only rock n roll
wild horses
you can always get what you want
midnight rambler
tumbling dice
connection
before they make me run
miss you
rough justice
get off my cloud
honky tonk woman
sympathy for the devil
paint it black
satisfaction
brown sugar

Actually that quote (and the song you remember them playing) is 'Its All Over Now'... "I think this song is older than this stadium!"

BUT, I'm with you. The Last Time would be a great opener. HOWEVER, I personally would love for them to start the show with Sweet Little Rock'n Roller! Kick it off with a Chuck Berry song. Can't think of a better way to start the show myself!

This may be the last time for a possible big tour, but they will keep going. I think they will do one off gigs every once in a while, or smaller tours like McCartney has been doing.

I Wanna Be Your Man would be a good opener. An 'in joke' of sorts. Knowledgeable fans would 'get it', while tourists would be wondering why they were opening with a 'Beatles song'.

"2012 Opener Prediction--The Last Time"

Too obvious and kinda ironic re the state of the band = Mick would never allow it to happen.

I'd settle for anything as a opener...but please, for the love of god, don't end with Satisfaction - it's gotta be the most overrated Stones war horse and it's time for change.

Never a truer word spoken, they will never quit, still playing into their 80's even 90's, and why not, chuck Berry is.
