If You Let Me
(Mick Jagger / Keith Richards)

RCA Studios, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, US, August 3 - 11, 1966 and
Pye Studios & Olympic Sound Studios, London, UK, November 8 - 26, 1966

Mick Jagger - lead vocals, backing vocals
Keith Richards - acoustic guitar, electric guitar, backing vocals
Charlie Watts - drums
Bill Wyman - bass
Brian Jones - autoharp
Jack Nitzsche - electric piano

You don't really understand, how it feels to be your man
You're just nice to have around, now, but I'll let you guess
You can get me, if you let me, oh, yes

It's nice to talk to you today, it's very pleasant anyway
Is this as far as you will go, but I'll let you guess
You can get me, if you let me, oh, yes

You can get me, if you let me, oh, yes

Yes, you're younger than I thought, you're so tall and I'm so short
It doesn't matter anyhow, but I'll let you guess
You can get me, if you let me, oh, yes

It's a brand new thing for me, loving you so physically
The time has come to say goodnight, but I'll let you guess
You can get me, if you let me, oh, yes
Oh yes

Produced by Andrew Loog Oldham

First released on:
The Rolling Stones - “Metamorphosis” LP
(Decca SKL 5212) UK, June 6, 1975

It would have fitted nice on the Flowers Album.
Nice (accoustic?) pop song, but personally I don't mind they did not stick in this mode forever.

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

Love it, one of many highlights on Metamorphosis & should've been either on Between The Buttons or released as a B-side.

A great song. I always think of this as one of the first flowerings of Stones' psychedelia, written around the time of Paint It Black and Have You Seen Your Mother Baby.

It has that great slow/fast and quiet/loud dynamic that is such a hallmark of early UK psychedelia such as Pink Floyd. I loved the way the 'yes' is whispered. It's very Syd Barrett like and trippy.

I often wonder if the Stones were into visiting UK psychedelic events. You hear about McCartney and other Beatles visiting various London happenings in 66 but hardly ever anything about Mick, Keith and Brian.

Brian's dulcimer also suggest that perhaps he was hip to what was going on at Elektra Records and perhaps copping an ear to acid folk originators like Buffy Saint Marie.

This or the other great Buttons outtake I Can See It could easily have taken the place of Something Happened To Me Yesterday IMO.

Isn't it just a standard soul ballad? Uh, seems like I need to re-visit this one...

Can't remember this one at all. I'll have a check and see.

I meant built up as a standard soul ballad, as a reply to the description of being a flower power melodic wonderment smiling smiley I'll have to check it out again.

If You Need Me, I know perfectly well smiling smiley

Me likey too - sounds a bit like an early tryout for Factory Girl, and would have fit very well on Between The Buttons.

I don't hear a dulcimer. I hear an autoharp--like John Sebastian played in the Lovin' Spoonful (very popular when this was recorded).

Excellent musically, great bass groove. Great melody in the verses but the chorus is pretty weak, imo.

This remains one of my favorite lesser-known Stone songs. I remember being a bit disappointed though when I found out that my Mom also liked it. Back in the 1970s, that was not a good thing.

L'Wren wasn't even born at the time, and Mick is already singing about her.

Kieth said Connection was the stones most obscure song.

but this is without a doubt their most obscure.

How is this any more obscure than anything else on Metamorphosis (& Keith was talking b*llocks).
