Brenton Wood: A Two-Hit Wonder:

I opened for Brenton Wood at the Palomino in LA. The audience was all Mexican/Hispanic. We were a Stones-type band and went over okay. I asked the promoter (an oldies radio station) about the audience, and he said that most, if not all, of the crowd worked in an a warehouse-type of environment and the oldies station was the only radio they heard all day, so they heard Wood's two songs ALL the time. He told me it was the same with a Johnny Rivers gig. Wood was a nice guy when I met him.

Funny story. People grow to like what is familiar - must be why we get You Got Me Rocking live all the time. "You know, for some reason, I've really grown to love You Got Me Rocking over the years."

Cool story. That Art Laboe crowd is loyal!

Oddly enough, I remember listening to those songs when they were brand-new and getting tons of airplay on Top-40 AM radio. I think both of his hits were classics of the genre, and it's great that they've kept him working all these years.
