OT: Post Your Favourite One-Hit Wonders

Strictly speaking, a one-hit wonder is an artist who had one, and only one, Top 40 hit single. Here's a good one to get it started. This record is actually a demo. Someone at the record company listened and said "This is done. This is a record". They transferred it to multi-track and put it out just the way it was. Sold 2 million copies.

Billboard #3, August 13, 1966. This clip includes the rare B-side, which is the A-side, recorded in reverse. Check out the B-side's label (shown at 2:05), a mirror image of the A-side label. Even the Warner Brothers WB logo is reversed!

#1 hit in 1964. You think it would have made #1 if he'd called it "Charlie"?

I saw the Dukes of September (Donald Fagen, Michael McDonald & Boz Scaggs) perform this live at the Greek. It was incredible.

Don't know if this made a blip in the U.K. in 1968.

Summer of '66. Sounds a little like the Stones.

Perhas Hendrix was a one-hit wonder stateside, but hev had several top-ten hits here in the UK, starting with Hey Joe in 1966 and ending - I think - with Voodoo Child (Slight Return) in 1970.

My favourite by them.

As far as I know, the Beatles had more than one hit. Please re-read the topic heading.

Thank you.

I remember the first time I heard this. Sounded so weird...and wonderful.

An oddball hit record, 40 years ago.

One Hit Wonder:

As posted e.g. Terry Jacks - Seasons in the Sun, right, that's a perfect example!

And what comes to my mind:

Danyel Gerard - Butterfly (in various languages),
one hit wonder all over Europe.

Mungo Jerry - In the Summertime,
they had a few hits after this, but are remembered mainly for In the Summertime, with which song they are still kind of doing small time.

And, of course: Scott McKenzie - SF: Maybe the most famous one hit wonder of all. And he's still singing this number on and off in oldie shows on TV programmes.

But what have Kimd Wilde or The Beatles to do with one hit wonders? I am baffled.

Agree.

We may call them multi one hit wonders.
