I thought the idea of this thread was to consolidate all of the threads about Mick's side project. An alternate "SuperHeavy Sucks" thread was started to prevent bad feelings between IORRians on a topic that seems to polarize most of us. If the "SuperHeavy Sucks" thread is still around, it might be nice to use it before things get ugly around here again. This thread seems to work best as a place for articles and information on the project with the other thread the best forum for venting spleens about why you dislike it.

Man, I irk you a lot, don't I? I should keep track of the number of posts I make that aren't followed by one of your rolling eye emoticons.

Sorry if I came off like it was my show, but if you've read through enough of the past thirty-odd pages there were more than a few flare-up's between extremes for and against this project. I was just trying to keep things from getting ugly. By all means say it sucks big dick if it makes you happy and say it in this thread or every thread. No reason anyone should feel repressed because I made a suggestion.

Mick Jagger to rock the big screen as a media mogul
The Rolling Stone will reportedly star in and produce new movie Tabloid, which is to be scripted by Josh Olson
Andrew Pulver
guardian.co.uk, Tuesday 27 September 2011

Movie Jagger-naut ... Mick Jagger is to produce and star in new film Tabloid.
Mick Jagger is set for his first acting role since 2001's little-seen The Man from Elysian Fields, playing a Murdoch-esque international media mogul in a new film called Tabloid, according to Deadline.

Jagger will serve as producer on the new project, which apparently is derived from his original idea. It is being made through his company Jagged Films, and A History of Violence writer Josh Olson has been hired to script it.

Jagger has dabbled in movie production over the years, receiving producer credits on the 2008 all-star comedy The Women and 2001 wartime drama Enigma, as well as Shine a Light, the Rolling Stones documentary directed by Martin Scorsese. He has nursed acting ambitions for much longer, making both Ned Kelly and Performance in 1970.

Sorry to be a lonely voice in the IORR crowd, but the more I listen to this album, the more I like it.
"Energy" is a really good tune!

We're on 'superheavy' rotation around our household.

The ones that are really sticking are Beautiful People, Energy, Satyameva Jayathe, Rock Me Gently, Miracle Worker, Superheavy, Mahiya, although I'm not disliking any songs, even the one that I found a bit bothersome at the beginning...I Can't Take It No More.

I don't want to be heretic or anything, but I'm beginning to think this album my be able to stand shoulder to shoulder with Wandering Spirit.

Let's give it a good six months though!

So I've recieved my deluxe copy of SuperHeavy and I must say after a few listens it's not appealing to me. I could enjoy the 'Miracle Worker' video on Youtube as a bit of fun but the album seems disjointed, the styles don't gel. Not being a Joss Stone fan doesn't help either as I find her voice grates on me. The opening track 'Superheavy' is interesting and 'Miracle Worker' is a bit of pop fluff but I find the rest of the album overproduced and boring.

Micks vocals are truly dreadful, almost offensive on the track 'One Day, One Night'. What happened him? Is he trying to sound like that? Does he take voice lessons to achieve that twang? It's actually worrying to imagine him listening to the playbacks and feeling content with his performance. More mind boggling still the rest of the group not piping up and telling him how bad he sounds.

Anyone know where I can get the lyrics? I can make out most of Mick but Damian's a challenge!

difficult to believe, but this would be great news.

sitting around waiting for mick, fcuk him.

no wonder joss and damian skipped the nyc kiss-mick launch party.

better a functioning 4 person group (plus shiah, courtney, and anne marie),
fronted by joss and damian. damian and dave and joss can sing all mick's parts,
except for the extreme mickish songs, which shouldn't have been on the album in
the first place.

too bad they can't re-release a version of the album produced by dave and damian.

what did joss say? she loves 80% of the album. probably the same 80% we love.
the 80% not ruined by jagger.

Re: SuperHeavy

While I understand you come at this from a very different place than I do, to the best of my knowledge 50% of the album is primarily Jagger songs:

Unbelievable, Energy, Never Gonna Change, One Day One Night, I Can't Take It, I Don't Mind, Warring People, and Hey Captain all seem indelibly marked as Jagger songs in large part.

At the risk of sounding like an anti-alarmist, it's just possible that Mick can't make the appearance due to a conflict. He is shooting the video for the second single so it's not like he washed his hands of the project. They all have separate careers and this isn't a true band so much as five personalities collaborating who still have their individual careers very much at the forefront. That is also why the entire group wasn't at the launch party. Besides, Mick's vocal role in "Miracle Worker" isn't so essential that they can't replace him unlike on some of the other songs.

That voice is nothing new. He's been perfecting that strangled cat thing since "She's the Boss". In fact, that might have been its first appearance....I don't know what the @#$%& it is - if it's on purpose or if that's what he sounds like when he doesn't really give a shite, but I always called it a voice only Jerry Hall could love...

yes, but not quite so fanatical as in the past. very much into damian marley
these days.

plus, since when did trashing jagger get you disqualified as a stones fan?

regarding mick's contributions to superheavy, they've caused severe
cognitive dissonance to these here ears from first hearing, and we've
said as much.

of the 20% that rubs the wrong way, its been jagger alone doing the rubbing.

of the 80% that elates us, we've called jagger probably the MVP.

so what do you do if you got someone on your team who is your MVP most of
the time, but also your Most Detrimental Player a good deal of the time?

especially if that MVP/MDP is the only one holding back live shows from
happening?

we always try to accent the positive, and overlook the negative, but there
came a time a few days ago when we simply had it with mick. his paternalistic
attitude towards the other four and refusal to commit to SuperHeavy...

can't take it no more.

Re: SuperHeavy

There are plenty of Stones fans who get fed up with Mick or Keith, but it would be a bit like being ticked at Keith over LIFE and wanting the Winos to carry on without him. The only connection for Stones fans with SuperHeavy is Mick. If you turn on Mick, there isn't much of a reason to talk about SuperHeavy here unless it becomes OT. Pretty sure that was what micwer was getting at.

not the slightest bit like that.

its like a new version of the Winos comes out, and all the new all-star players
(for argument's sake, say Willie Nelson and Jack White and Toots Hibbert and
Alicia Keys) except Keith mesh perfectly and perform brilliantly, but some real
clunkers from Keith are put out front and up high just because he's producing.
and then, despite the brilliance of this new band, keith belittles them and refuses
to perform with them. Should Alicia and Willie and Jack and Toots carry on?

THAT is what its like.

Are you saying Mick is belittling the other superheavians? Has he actually said he 'refuses' to play with them?

I'm asking because that would be news to me. The last I had read, Mick intimated that they may play some gigs...certainly not promising anything, but certainly not belittling the band or the idea of playing together.

That is pretty much what he's saying, with no consideration that they did not plan to do any touring shows & it is just possible (as someone else pointed out) that he has other commitments ... not to mention the other possibility that maybe he just doesn't want to do it.

"belittling" is too strong a word. earlier we used the word "paternalistic" to
describe our perception of mick's behavior and attitude. maybe "patronizing"
is even a better word for it.

but this is all just our perception and so may be a tempest in a teacup.
we don't know how the other Heavies feel. All we know is how we would feel
if Mick was publicly comporting himself towards us like he has been towards
what we at one point were led to believe were his bandmates.

what did joss say? that dave called her up and said me and mick are starting
a BAND, do you wanna be in it?

then suddenly mick is saying he never thought it was more than just a one-
shot thing.

so maybe yeah, maybe just a misunderstanding and misinterpretation on our part.
of a whole host of comments by mick towards the other four and towards
SuperHeavy collectively that we have found strange at best. yes, we know he
has also said some gracious and generous things towards each of them, but
that's not what we're talking about here. just like with the album, we're
not talking about all the great notes mick has hit, just the strange
out-of-place ones.

anyway, we are not saying that SuperHeavy is playing their first public live
gig without mick in order to send mick a message. we are saying we HOPE that
is what they're doing. time to shit or get off the pot, man.

would you regard the facts, please?

There will be no SuperHeavy act in the "WettenDass...?" show oct. 8th in Germany.

Dave and Joss will perform "Karma" from the Joss Stone album "LP1"

Pay No Mind to the Big Names
"SuperHeavy" succeeds as a synthesis of seemingly dissimilar streams of rock and pop. As the album unfolds, the instinct to identify influences surrenders to an acceptance of the concept. With Mr. Marley as the dominant voice, the overarching feel of the music is joy—not merely because the fusion works, but because it works so well.
"It's still music with a groove," Mr. Jagger said. "But I didn't feel like we were copping something else."
....In the end, the musicians surrendered to the on-the-fly recording process, perhaps against their customary way of working. Mr. Marley likes a bit more control, Mr. Stewart said, and Mr. Rahman conceded he didn't attempt to drive the process. At first, Mr. Jagger was a tad wary of working with musicians he didn't know.
"It was all give and take," Mr. Jagger said. "You rely on your critical faculties because you're not aware of their capabilities."
"At first, we didn't know what the hell we were doing," Mr. Stewart said. "But by the end of the first day we were really pleased."
