Stones on the Road 1976 ITV Documentary, half an hour long. Live footage, interviews, the lot.

I posted this yesterday but just in case you didn't see it here goes.

Go to Freemantlemediaarchive.com Register, (its free and easy and quick) then search for Stones on The Road and you can watch the whole half hour! Brilliant!

May.

The programme was broadcast on 27th May 1976.

Saying that, 1976 was about the hottest year in the UK in centuries!

Yes, you can download it, I'm using Safari on a Mac and it is easy to do from the Activity window. It is the same procedure as for downloading YouTube video's. No idea about other systems.

Thanks for the link, phelge. This should be on YouTube.

BTW, the old 4:3 aspect ratio of the original video was
s t r e t c h e d incorrectly to 16:9 (today's TV aspect).
That should be fixed, doncha think?

Million thanks, absolutely awesome stuff.

To me the whole 1976 has some kind of end of an era feeling. The end of "Jumping Flash"-era - an era of developing and seeing how far one can go with the dark blues rock format (or you could say: sex and drugs and rock and roll) The Stones perfected from 1968 to 1976.. In 1976 they were so deep in drugs and the rock and roll life style and so full of arrogance and hedonism and super stardom but also at the time sounding like totally losing the musical spark and point of the whole thing. I especially feel that the 'boss' is really feeling 'old' and irrelevant and wondering how he will continue from there on without totally taking the nostalgic trip, and making a kind of caricature, even fun of his own very image (like he seemed to do in 1975/76 tours.).

Two years later they were a different band with a new sound and tone altogether. A beginning of a new era (that would last the following four-five years, and to me personally mark the last truely great era of theirs).

To me dividing the eras by the name of the second guitarist (Keith is always the number one, right?) has never been very accurate way to see history of the band. In live you can do that to an extent but like I noticed above, the band in 1976 is musically closer to 1973 incarnation than to 1978 one. One cold say that between 1973 and 1975 there is still a natural development or evolving process going on (taking the deconstructive route, though). Wood is just filling Taylor's shoes and not really contributing to the sound of the band by shaping it to an original direction. Of course, Taylor actually is the crown jewel and distinctive instrumentalist in peaking the era (especially live) but the very music comes from Mick and Keith peaking in 1968 and 1969 (JJF, BEGGARS, HTW, BLEED), when Taylor's creative contributions were none or minimal. Taylor was a perfect choice in order to shape the songs to work live. Taylor, of course, later contributed in evolving the sound of the band and their songs in studio but that was like adding to already existent foundation made in 1968-69. The foundation is Mick and Keith's brainchild, and which makes the band best of them all.

Thanks but its still not the complete programme, it stops in the same place as schillid's

...So it worked for you, then?!
When did you download it??
As you can see from my post here above, around 7pm the file was 'unavailable' when I tried to download it - that's why I'm curious to know.
