Zip Code Tour Setlists
Posted by: stones2000 ()

Hi. Does anyone know if the setlists for Zip Code will or won't be entirely Sticky Fingers? I've heard rumors of both, but I thought maybe any of you could weigh in. Thanks!

Nope. It probably won't, but Mick said on Marc Maron's podcast they do not have a setlist. They have said things in the press at the moment of maybe just the deep cuts, maybe its own mini set. But at this moment from Jagger's mouth nothing has been set in stone yet, but from the comments it sounds pretty clear it won't be the whole record. The rumor has been one show they play the whole record in LA, but it sounds like the actual Zip Code tour will not feature the record in its entirety.

Thank you! Yeah, that's what I figured would probably happen.

Look at the set lists from the 50 and Counting and 14 on Fire Tours, I doubt you're going to get much of a change besides maybe 2 extra Sticky Fingers songs per show thrown in. Unfortunately, I doubt they will attempt Sway due to that song's strong association with Taylor. My best guess is 20 songs from the following list each night, but man would I love to be proven completely wrong and could easily replace over half the list with songs I'd rather hear.

"Brown Sugar"
"Get Off Of My Cloud"
"The Last Time"
"It's Only Rock 'n Roll (But I Like It)"
"Paint It Black"
"Gimme Shelter"
"Wild Horses"
"Doom and Gloom"
"One More Shot"
"Honky Tonk Women"
"Before They Make Me Run"
"Happy"
"Midnight Rambler"
"Miss You"
"Start Me Up"
"Tumbling Dice"
"Sympathy for the Devil"
"You Can't Always Get What You Want"
"Jumpin' Jack Flash"
"(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction"
"You Got Me Rocking"
"Angie"
"Ruby Tuesday"
"Can't You Hear Me Knocking"
"Bitch"
"Dead Flowers"
"Moonlight Mile"
"Street Fighting Man"
"Out of Control"
"You Got the Silver"

peace

Thanks. That list has some pretty awesome stones classics! I think you're right, too, that the setlist will be similar to 14 on Fire.

... Why not? They played it without him in 2005-2007, more times (I think?) than they played it with him in 2013-14.
Are you saying it would somehow be "different" because he was featured as a guest and is now de-featured again?

It is Mick and Keith who screw up Sway, not Ronnie. Of course they can play it.

It's in their best interest to not do Sway. They've done OK with CYHMK. They can certainly still pull off Bitch, Dead Flowers and Brown Sugar. I'd count on those four and that's it.

The whole thing about them playing SF in its entirety won't happen, they will do the usual numbers from that record,BS,Bitch,WH, DF,and perhaps Sway or Knocking, and as a treat every once in a while Sister Morphine, and the rest the usual warhorses......

Perhaps more so...thrilling.

3. You Got Me Rocking
4. Bitch
5. Undercover Of The Night
6. Can't You Hear Me Knocking
7. Rock And A Hard Place
8. Angie

Not really, just that is was obviously better when they played it with Taylor and imo they have never really been able to make the song work live. It needs Taylor's lead playing to have any excitement at all.

Besides, Mick never seems to get the vocal delivery right partly because they rush the tune on every live attempt I've heard. Mick seems to want to turn this beautiful tune into an up tempo rocker. confused smiley It's one of my favorite Stones tunes and when you listen to the original, it's basically a slow tempo rocker and it really loses it's feeling when played fast.

But maybe I was projecting a bit....Probably me that doesn't want them to play this without Taylor. smoking smiley

Talking about Sway and hearing Mick on the Marc Maron podcast has got me wondering....what does Jagger have against slow songs? Does he think that people in the audience can't/don't appreciate them because they are not dancing or on their feet? Does he think that they don't belong in a large venue live concert setting? Does a fast tempo song reach the fan in the back row of a stadium any more effectively than slow tempo one?

I think his performance has become too dependent on uptempo stuff that he can run around the stage in sync with and has forgotten that as music appreciators we love a well sung, well played slow song too. I would never criticize a Stones show if they played a few more of them, all of them on Sticky Fingers, if done well would be a treat in any setting.

Perhaps it is a visual thing and he feels it's easier to provide some visual cues and entertaining moves to the folks in the nosebleed seats with up tempo numbers. Maybe he needs the faster songs to keep his own energy level high in a show and maybe he just feels he can't entertain as well with just his voice. But I cringe to think how many great Stones tunes we've never heard live because Mick decided they weren't up tempo enough for the show.

My attraction to the Stones is purely musical anyway, not particularly drawn to them because of Mick's dancing, any show/stage related props or similar offerings. The best music, imo, was when both Taylor and Wyman (and even Keith to a lesser extent) were standing still as statues, concentrating on the music and letting it speak for itself. Slow songs can speak for themselves and I welcome a few more of them this time out.

peace

Same thing will happen this year. We'll get reports from the rehearsals of all these non-warhorse songs they're doing, obscure numbers etc.. but when it comes down to the concerts, they'll just be the same as always.

From the podcast, I got the feeling that Sister Morphine will be in the set list. He also mentioned doing something they've never played before. So there's that.

Or this set list;

SFD
The Last Time
19th Nervous Breakdown
Dandelion
Ruby Tuesday
Rocks Off
Gimme Shelter
Bitch
CYHMK
Wild Horses
Dead Flowers
HTW
Happy
Coming Down Again
Shes a Rainbow
Stray Cat Blues
IORR
Brown Sugar
JJ Flash
SFM

E1- Start Me Up
E2-The Last Time

Pretty good setlist Midnight Toker but have they ever played Start Me Up as an encore? I hope they skip it but, if played, I'd guess it would be after a slow tune mid set.

I wonder if they have ever changed the set list during the show? Either adding songs and/or changing the order based on how they were feeling or how the audience was reacting?

We'll see.. The stadium sets have not been changed very much over the last years and Mick already said they're gonna play the hits for us.
Maybe Doom And Gloom will be played again because it was a rocker on stage and especially the young people really liked it.

They should open this tour with 100 Years Ago, first verse only Mick, piano/organ, some strumming by Keith and then the 2nd verse kicks in and it's entrance Charlie, Darryl and Ronnie! Would sound f*****g MEGA!!!!!!!!!!!!

(and make sense for the tour as it's probably being one of the last tours they'll do, this and the next 20!)

I probably should know the story, but it's been a long time since I've seen the film. I know they stopped playing for a while but did they actually diverge from a pre-arranged set list? Thx.

Yep! It's not in the film, but after Sympathy they threw in The Sun Is Shining in an attempt to mellow things out,
and after Under My Thumb MJ asked MT what he felt like playing, and much to everyone's surprise
MT felt like playing the just-recorded Brown Sugar. So they did.

I doubt it also but,it would be VERY sad to have no songs from the past 10 years in the set list.

They should include either "One More Shot" / "I Ain't Signifying" / "It Won't Take Long" / "She Saw Me Coming" / or "Laugh,I Nearly Died" ..... or all of them at least in rotation with each other. Or they could keep "Doom and Gloom" in there.

There IS room for 1 recent song, even with extra 'Sticky Fingers' album tracks.
